There are a lot of Finnish Mosin M39's out there and I want to buy one. It seems to easy to pick up one that has a receiver built before 1899, as well as options built in the 1940's. I'm intrigued about getting an "antique" one that doesn't require an FFL, but I do plan on shooting it.
Is there a significant difference in metallurgy quality between the 1890's and 1940's variations? Other than the "neato" factor of owning the antique, is one more desirable or better from a practicality standpoint?
