I finnaly shot my Llama IX-A and it is accurate and MORE reliable than my Kimber custom II Aside from all the Llama haters I am very satisfied with this gun and I will rate it 6 out of 10 sence it's a entry level 1911:neener:

I'm glad to hear that your happy with the results thus far with your Llama IX-A. And not all of us are "Llama haters"; it's just that some of us have had less than satisfactory experiences with Llamas in the past. Maybe something about being "once bitten, twice shy"; such that we might feel the need to warn other shooters about the various pitfalls and problems that we have encountered with certain manufacturers. I hope everything works out well with your Llama, and keep us posted as to your experiences with it.

Thanks bannockburn, I love it. It does have more recoli than my Kimber custom II but I assume that's because of it's a bit lighter. Ill be sure to to post on range reports and hopefully find a darn camera.

Sometime ago I found a little LLAMA Mini-Max 1911 Sub compact double stack. I figured it would be great for a CCW weapon and it didn't hurt that it was inexpensive. I couldn't (nor could the LLAMA gunsmiths) get to fire more than 5 rounds w/o either o FTF or a FTE. I polished the feed ramp, used factory Hardball, and sent it back for repair twice all to no avail. I traded it back to the shop where I got it for a Glock 27 and never looked back. I didn't get hurt too bad on it I only lost $50.00 as the shop owner and I had been fighting this thing since I bought it. I don't begrudge him the $50.00 either, it was a fairly inexpensive learning experience. I'm sure there will be some that will say I was limp wristing it, to that I say I didn't have any problems with the Glock, and I have a Colt Officers now that I don't have any problems with. That LLAMA was the only gun that I have ever had that I had those problems with. So, I think I can safely say it was the gun, not he shooter. To their credit, they did try to make it right 2 different times, and I do appreciate that. But for me, I will never buy another LLAMA product.

Dang, that's too bad. I think the Mini Max might be the 50/50 deal everyone is talking about. So far it has been 50/50 posts on the Mini Max Llama compact 45acp. I can say with experience the Llama IX-A is a good shooter and mine is reliable.

I bought a Mini Max Llama and had problems with failing to eject. I thought it would be a good CCW but:

1) It felt like I was carrying a brick.
2) It was not reliable.
3) Spare mags cost $50.

Does your IX-A look anything like this? Damn nice pistol, tack-driver, never had any problems...Kudos on yours....:)
P.S. Never liked LLama grips, the plain wood...Added some nice Australian Black snake...

Constantine-p89, Glad you like the Llama, I had a Max-I and it never failed
me inany way.
I started out with a Llama in .380acp, still have it and use it for CCW
it has more than 8,000 rounds thru it.
The Max-I I traded for a Witness. 45

Wish I never did that!

The first 1911 I ever owned was a Llama ( I called it Dhali) the gun was fairly accurate. but the metal was soft . some one was able to fire the thing with the safety on and the gun literally fell apart in his hands. I wish you luck W/ yours I will NEVER own one again

Magyar never ceases to amaze me with his collection of oddball pieces...

Varoadking, I'm going to name you my official biographer even though I get battered & bruised along the way...:D

Where do you get such grips as the above black snake and the ostrich on your HSc?
One of my hobbies is dabbling in exotic skins for belts, wallets, hatbands, etc. and naturally gravitated to holsters/grips..Not to difficult, but locating nice skins for a decent price is the main obstacle...
Thanks for asking...:)

but you might want to see if M1911 mags will fit and function in your Llama.
No, they don't work....Unfortunately, the LLama has only limited parts that are interchangeable with the 1911....

Mad Magyar, YES that is the SAME gun as I have but you have a better magazine and some very cool grips. I have found 1 place, a guy on ebay sells the grips for this gun but you may have to do a little work with a dremel tool.

Over the years, those are probably the two biggest complaints I've heard about Llamas; that the steel was too soft and that the magazines were poorly made. Keep on an eye on the barrel lugs, the breech face, and the hammer/firing pin for any excessive wear or peening. I don't know if it will work, but you might want to see if M1911 mags will fit and function in your Llama.
