hey guys, i have two projects that i just aquired recently. they are both M28/76 mosin nagants barreled actions. one is the normal marksman rifle with a .308 bore and the other is an ex sniper trainer with the D-166 designation and a .310 bore. gave them both a good cleaning and oiling and polished the bolts and bolt channel in the actions. for the time being im not planning on changing the triggers because they arent normal mosin triggers, the finns modified them to a two stage match trigger. and i added two new m39 front sights from finland.

marksman: on the marksman to this point i have installed a hex rock solid mosin mount topped off with a new redfield tactical bdc 3-9x42, new action screws from rock solid, and have a stock coming from blue grass gunstocks( full tactical package in black ). have new lapua brass that i will reload using berger 175 gr vlds for now using rcbs dies with both .308 and .311 expanders.

ex-sniper: on the ex-sniper to this point i have a MFI all steel rail that is mounted in the original scope base topped off with a springfield armory art IV 3-9x32 made by burris, new action screws from rock solid, bedding pillars, and a laminated stock coming from big gorilla gunstocks ( tactical/ f-class appearance ). will reload with some sierra .311 bullets, but for now i have some surplus russian match 182 gr rounds from AIM.

Does anyone have any suggetions to finnish out these two rifles?

Just curious why you are calling one a "Marksman" and one an "ex-sniper"? Also wondering if you have checked the bores on those or just read those figures online? All of my 28/76s are unaltered and are 308. They are also very tight compared to other military rifles using 7.62 X 54.

Since this is a loading forum you are posting in, I will say that I had 1 of these that only seemed to like Lapua brass (which is denoted 53r) and so did a good friend of mine. I keep brass specific to each of these and only neck size.

Regarding your build(s), I personally would pull all that scope stuff off of there and put the diopters back on. I enjoy sitting at the range with my peep sights and old rifles shooting quarter-sized holes at 100 while some folks with scopes and new rifles are all over the paper. They had those stock with their military scope mounts too....just not my preference.

You should go with D-166 reloads for the one with the D chamber. Midway sells them and they work great. With fine tuning of load and powder you should be able to get exceptional accuracy.

For stock fit you might try both floating and shimming the barrel alternately to see what's giving you the best results.

I would not shoot any surplus .311" through the tight bore. These are precision rifles quite unlike your workaday Mosin or even an M39. The tolerances are not loose. They will shine when treated like match rifles.

as far as i know the ones with the scope base were used as sniper trainer rifles and without was deemed a marksman rifle. these were just barreled actions when i bought them, didnt have the diopters

and as far as the surplus match ammo from AIM, it is .310 on my digital calipers and my bore shows .3098 with the same calipers

update

hi everyone, here is the exsniper so far, tell what ya think?
