I ordered some 9mm 147 grain ammo from Sportsmans Guide. The maroon box was about $1 per box more expensive than the blue box (Shooting Dynamics) so I ordered the cheaper rounds.

Today the ammo arrives and it’s the maroon box.

I have never used Fiocchi before, so I don’t know what if any difference there is between the box colors. Anybody know?

You loose 1 man point for knowing the difference between maroon and blue and another point for knowing the word maroon.

I shoot Fiocchi a lot because I find that it's good ammo and, as Ala Dan noted, it's also loaded a bit hotter than domestic rounds.

My understanding is the maroon (I call them purple but whatever :neener: ) boxes are ammo loaded in Italy and imported, while the blue boxes are ammo loaded here in US factories, using Hornady bullets.

I've always wondered if the blue boxes are downloaded since they're loaded here and all US 9mm seems to be a bit weedy compared to Euro loads. I've never shot the blue box stuff personally so I can't help you there but I'm sure its good stuff too. Fiocchi is a very reputable brand.

Fiocchi is good ammo, but it tends too be loaded on the "warm side"~!

Heck, yes ! Awhile back I bought a few boxes of the maroon box Fiocchi FMJTC 142gr .357 Mag ammo, not having ever tried it before. At the range, I had finished up what more common range ammo I had, and switched over to the Fiocchi stuff. That stuff was HOT. So much so that while I shot a little bit of it out of the 686, there was no way I was putting that stuff in the k frame. I even got a few lookers from the other range booths because the bang and flash was so much bigger than what I had been using. It looks like this.

Like +P hot or +P+ hot?

Tough to say. I'm not a reloader and only shoot factory ammo. And as far as I know there is no such thing as .357 +p (not labeled as such anyway). Suffice to say, it was most likely the hottest .357 I have ever personally fired. Enough so that I wasn't real comfortable putting that kind of torture to my guns. Months later, I still have about half of the first 50 box I opened.

When I shoot .45ACP from the brown boxes, FTF's and FTE's disappear in my P-13 Longslide. It is noticably "hotter" than Winchester WB.
