Which means no pizza for lunch if I'm out for a walk and the joint has a beer license - and they all do around here. Same deal with the delis. And no won-ton soup for me either.

Virginia does not have bars and the ABC Board controls the alcohol licenses for restaurants and they run the liquor stores.

I have mixed feelings about the law and the petition. In one sentance it would seem to imply that it is fine to carry and consume alcoholic beverages. I was brought up that guns and alcohol don't mix and if you carry you don't drink, if you drink you don't carry. The rest of the petition is fine.

I do not think it is that unreasonable to seek repeal. I think something like what we have here in this state might work, and I do not disagree with it. It's okay to carry into a restaurant, even if alcohol is served there, so long as you stay out of the bar area. Obviously, dedicated bars are off limits as well under this rule.

So if you're just going to Chili's to have a burger, that's okay... but if you want to hang out at the bar area in Chili's, that's a no go.

Here come the teetotalers...Just because you have a drink doesn't mean you are drunk or incapacitated. Just because you carry a gun in a bar doesn't mean you're going to get drunk. What about the designated driver? What about someone who is just going out with friends, but doesn't drink?

Here in OK we aren't allowed to carry into an establishment whose primary focus is alcohol.

In other words, it's ok to carry to Chili's for a burger. Not ok to carry in bars.

No it isn't. Virginia ABC law requires the sale of food, a substantial amount of food, in order to get and keep a license to sell alcohol by the drink.

IOW, name one place in Virginia that only sells alcoholic drinks.

You can open carry in establishments that serve alcohol. An inside the waist band holster where the grip is visible is considered open carry.
