my buddies and I once discussed what weapon we would want if we faced a group of velacorapters. They chose 12 guages with 3" slugs, .44s, .45s, M60s etc. I said "flame thrower", we can always have a bar-b-que afterwards.:D

Why do people always think PitBulls are tough and not be killed by other animals?
They are not invulnerable, but they are pretty tough, and are not all that easy to take down without so much as a murmer.

The thing that got me was the pits were killed so fast and quiet that dogs within a few hundred feet were not disturbed.

BTW you are ignoring a couple of points about cats and dogs. Cats run from dogs, big cats included. Cougars are no different, they are very frequently hunted by using a small pack of hounds (often as few as 2 or 3).

Running away from them is one thing. But you can't seriously sit there and tell me that 1 on 1. Animal vs Animal a Pit has a close chance at a Cougar of similar or bigger size.

No I am telling you that a big cat ain't attacking a pit that size unless the pit has him cornered. A big cat might attack and eat a small dog, but it is VERY unlikely that he attacks a pit that size to begin with. AND IF it did attack the pit it would put up a pretty darn good fight, not likely to end up dead w/o letting folks around know about it. I have personally seen 2 pits stretch a 250lb russian type hog, one that had a pack of 6 hounds held off just fine.

a little off topic, but yeah pit bulls do have the strongest bite in the dog world. compare to a doberman which was in number 2 the pit is almost at 2000 the dobie is down to 1250 (according to my vet). To put this in perspective, I was doing bite work (schutzhund) with my doberman and through the glove he clamped on my forearm with enough force I could feel the bones flex toward each other. i don't do bite work with him anymore

Umm yeah pits are nasty if you are a small person or child but... I haven't seen one bigger than 120. My roomate's dog is a Mastiff/Pitt mix and an easy 160 (it wasn't easy to pickup and throw in the pool to see if it could swim) and one of her friends came by with a pit bull but I don't think it was a pure breed and it was about 2/3 the dog's size.

The dog got real aggressive with me one day when one of the roomates kids started trying to punch me in the kidneys (I know...I don't like kids that much anymore) I started give the kid a nueggy, the dog went ape s%$t and I saw that I either had to kick the crap out of it or get bit so long story short I put it on its back grabbed its throat with one hand and roughly pet its stomach with another. Since with the exception of it getting mean with my girlfriend once and me again kicking its tail, the dog absolutely loves and listens to me when I let it out back in the acre off the leash. The roomates(ex-spouses back together and their two kids) don't get why it listens to me and loves it when I pet its belly.

There's a difference between pit bulls of the old blood lines and those mixed around mutts people call pit bulls that don't possess much of the same ancestory but are rather bull dogs mixed about (still big nasty dogs). A Cougar of a good amount of aggression able to pounce on a sleeping pit at night crushing the dog's spine at the neck paralyzing it instantly would always have the upperhand. A Cougar versus a 170 pound alpha male wolf, that's another story.

Oh I'd at least have my SBH .44 Magnum and Ruger P-90 .45 ACP. After that I'm taking my 12 gauge and 00. Don't want to die for lack of shooting.

If put in a fighting ring, a 150-pound pit bull

:scrutiny:

A 150 pound Pitbull???

Dunno what kinda dog you've seen, but Pits are medium-sized dogs that average between 50 and 70 pounds.

"Pit Bull" is term that's come to lump several "bully" breeds into one category, but has come to most commonly describe the American Staffordshire Terrier...or the "AmStaff" None are large dogs.

Article exerpt:

Pit Bull is a term commonly used to describe several breeds of dog in the Molosser family that were historically used for dog fighting. The breeds most often placed in this category are the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

your 50-70 lbs is from the AKC standard for thier version of the breed. Old time pits have run in size from the 40-50 lb range all the way up to 120+. Most of that difference comes from the intentions of the breeder and what purpose they are being bred for. I have not owned a pit in years, the first I owned was a 45lb gyp who was often confused with the local mountain curs, but the last I owned was an 85lb female who was just a baby. Her full brother was about 105lbs (and yes they were AKC reg. Staff's). I happened to get them from a guy who raised them as catch dogs for hog hunting. They were big strong and real agressive when hunting and were quite protective of us (their family), but were loyal and loving dogs to us. I have seen other individuals who were registered stock in excess of 120lbs.
