Firearms during state of Emergency
"5. Areas of emergencies and riots
It is also a misdemeanor under North Carolina law for a person to transport or possess, off his own premises, a dangerous weapon in an area during a declared state of emergency, or in the vicinity of a riot. A concealed handgun permit does not allow a permittee to carry a weapon in these areas."
Recently we have had a "State of Emergency" declaration in several counties here in N.C. due to an ice storm.
As you can see above, during a declared "State of Emergency" it is illegal to bear arms in that county or emergency area even with a CCW permit. This was probably included in the N.C. law to cover civil unrest situations like riots, wars, ect. but a call to the local law enforcement agency left me with the feeling it could be enforced during ANY declared state of emergency. A call to my lawyer confirmed that if an LEO was to discover the fact you had a firearm (traffic stop ect.) he could charge you.
A word to the wise.
