here is the odd thing. been going through my saved brass, just fired factory ammo. several brands. noticed on all of them the following issue.

in the same spot on all fired cases is a short cut on the case, super thin like a razor blade on a piece of plasic. barely feel it on most of htem, but its parallel with the case head about 3/8" below the shoulder.

the odd thing is, i have one box of factory ammunition, winchester 55 gr jsp varmint ammo that 8 unfired and uncycled rounds have similar scratches on them from the factory.

is this more of a "who cares, its brass so reload it" or "check the chamber" or hopefully "check the magazine or feed ramp for a burr?"

Its from the brass deflector on your AR. Look on it for little brass marks. Put a piece of stick on velcro on the deflector to remedy this. 223 brasss is cheap and plentiful. Id avoid any pieces with actual cuts in the brasss.

Ohhhh, that's what that little thing is (the brass deflector) that I thought didnt do anything? Learn something new every day around here. Well, almost every day.
