Fired over Magazine?

A few years ago I was working a lousy phone sales job on the graveyard shift, and they failed to hire me from the temp placement with no reason. Upon reflection I am fairly certain it's because I was looking at sites like THR all night. It wasn't against any policies anywhere, just made them nervous. The difference there was, I was on a probationary temp-to-hire basis, they didn't need to give any reason for firing me at all.

You can be right.....or you can be happy. Pick one.

he might not have a case against the employer, but is that not a potential slander or vilification case against the other employee?

Wow. I'm glad I work in an ER/Trauma center. They tried to block access to gun related sites a few years back and the ER and surgical staff threw a fit. Seems that they like to look up ballistics info on GSW victims and it was getting blocked. Not to mention, a HUGE chunk of the ER staff are gun owners and shooters. County hospital. The people we save and send out the door are walking reasons for concealed carry and a surprising number of docs and ER nurses CCW here in the PRK. I get approached about 10 times a night for firearms/ballistics/instruction/range info by any one of a dozen nurses or docs.

Here in NJ, the permit to purchase sends a letter to your place of employment. So if you have an uner-liberal boss, he can not only get your gun permit denied, but also fire you from your job as well.

How on earth is it constitutional that your employer gets to decide if you purchase a firearm? No wonder everyone from NY talks trash about Jersey.

With at-will employment, the OP probably has no good recourse. If he wants to make sure, he needs to get his own lawyer.

Someone suggested contacting the company legal department, but that's a waste of time. That lawyer is the company's lawyer and will represent the company's interests -- not yours. That's his job. He is not, and will not be, your lawyer. Also, anything you tell the company's lawyer will not be confidential.

OK now im really mad. One of my co-workers whom is also an enthsiast just showed me a new buyers guide. I asked him how long he has had it at work he tells me a week. Well it honestly appears that I have no choice but to comply and be good little sheep that doesnt rock the boat.

Shoot, you could walk in there tomorrow wearing a thong and carrying a years worth of Machinegun News. But if you want to keep the job, yep, you pretty much gotta comply. Doesn't it suck not being independently wealthy?

Yep, it's legal, and there isn't thing 1 you can do about it. Unless you are covered by some contract or collective bargaining agreement (ie, you are in a union), your employment can be terminated at any time for any, or no reason.

Suck it up, keep your mouth shut, and keep your job. The broad you share a desk with is a moron, and you can't fix them either.

If you feel strongly enough about it, look for another job .... but, it won't be any different there.
