So this a.m. I stopped by the local PO to send off the Ishy I just sold to another board member. Mind you know, that I have already gone by once to get the cost of shipping it and discussed how to ship it with the postal employee, and learned from all the experts here on THR.
Well this a.m. I get a different postal agent. I've delt with her in the past, (but not for firearms)and I'm sure she recognizes me from the past. I toss that big old box up on the counter, present the FFL copy and she tells me "You cannot ship a gun unless you're a dealer too." Me: "Uh, no. Check your info. I CAN ship a long gun as long as it is going to an FFL, and this is a copy of the dealers where it is going." Well, then she was getting flustered. Real nervous like. She started stumbling around like I was going to open that package and start shooting up the place. She checked her chart they keep on the desk and with a look of embarrassment, gladly accepted the package. I kindly asked for delivery conf. and insurance, got the total paid with my debit card, then she tells me she gave me the wrong receipt and I had hers. She still had them both! She only handed me my debit card back. She then applied the ins and delv. conf. tags to the box, and placed the box in the bin behind the counter. I then asked her if she was going to place the postage paid sticker to the box so it would not show back up at my house. You should have seen her fumbling around in embarrassment at that point.
Experienced learned? you can really tell when you are dealing with someone nervous around firearms.

You should have told her a little white lie, and said it had a trigger lock on it, and you were shipping the key seperately, so it could not jump out of the box and "go postal" and kill her and her co-workers.

No no...

You should have wrestled it to the counter like it had a live stingray in it. When you finally got it to the counter, say "Whew, I never thoguht I'd ever get this beast into the box."

When she faints, go to the original clerk that helped you before.

The majority of the times that I have brought a rifle in to a PO (for the first time at that po) to ship it to an FFL I have been initially refused by the clerk. I usually bring the printed rules or have them refer to their cheat sheet. If you ever get really stuck you can have them call their shipping standards office.

On two instances the clerks also started nearly shaking like your clerk.

At one post office I brought in a black 10/22 stock and a stainless barrel that I had removed from a 10/22 I was going to customize. I brought them in unwrapped because I was going to get a free priority triangular box from the PO. The clerk saw the stock and yelled and started running for the back of the post office! She thought I was there to tear the place up!

Guns will load and shoot themselves!!

Scotts GT, you are lucky to be alive.

I'm surprised the gun didn't open its box from inside, unpack itself, load itself and kill you and everyone else in the Post Office! It's happened SO many times before. It is amazing that some sheeple will wet themselves in the presence of an inanimate object.

You know of course, that guns cause violence. That's why there are so many mass killings at gun shows.

Well, it might just be an inanimate object, but when you put it in the hands of a postal worker...

Oh jeebus, you made me spit out my chaw. Too funny!!!!

I was shipping an AR upper a few weeks ago. When I brought it into the shipping place, the girl at the counter said "This is kind of scary. Is there a revolution or something I should know about?"

Well

I had one tell me the same BS at our local Post Office. After going to the back to talk to God or whoever/whatever was in the back, he returned and told me I couldn't use the Factory Remington box to ship it in. I told them that Rem used the exact same box when they shipped it, so why can't I? He informed me that a terrorist might see that box marked Remington and might hijack the truck. After laughing a bit, I asked him how many terrorist do they have working for the USPS, since they will be the only ones who will see this package? Really, how many people get to walk around in a USPS warehouse looking at boxes? He also said that certain delivery people might refuse to deliver it because it's dangerous.

So in the end he (the USPS guy) put tape over the Remington markings on the box and that made it safe and terrorist free. :D

Actually, the cheat sheet she pulled out had "No external markings on the box to disclose a firearm is inside" So I guess the Remington box might be a give away.

Better then my experience with USPS.

I was in the post office for another reason and asked about how I would ship a rifle. The clerk didn't know so she went to ask the (female) postmaster. Here's what I heard:

Clerk: I have a customer who wants to know how to ship a rifle?

Postmaster: Oh my God!

Heh, that's nothing!

I was at a UPS store yesterday to ship a M19 back to S&W for some work. The counter guy was an older hippie looking guy.

I said "Hey I want to ship this handgun back to Smith and Wesson" (It was in a closed, blue plastic S&W case).

He actually PUT HIS HANDS UP and backed off a couple of steps and said "Oooh nooo, we can't do that! We can't handle hazardous materials!"

It turns out that I had to go to a hub to ship it... he kept insisting that they know how to "inspect the hazardours materials and handle and pack the hazardous materials"

I'm thinking "it's a hunk of metal dude. it's not even remotely hazardous."

He seemed very freaked out by it.

as I left, I observed two youts looking rapidly up and down the street, looking very suspicious, and one dashed into the store as quick as he could.

I drove away.

Best part was when I got to the hub, the lady said "Ok, fine, here's a box" and never even looked at it. :)

"Look, you can't blame a postal worker for not trusting herself with a gun."

ROTFLMAO :D

Someone needs to incorporate this line into a joke.

Kind of sad, really. Someone has lived their whole life believing what the leftists say about the evil of guns and has so internalized it that it causes such a palpable reaction. You and I get warm fuzzies when we think about guns but many Americans feel absolute fear. They honestly feel that guns are evil. That's just wrong.

uhhhh... 2 options

1.) She thought you were cute... Girls act that way around me all the time... :uhoh:

2.) She is one of those bossy chicks and when you put your foot down she actually had no idea what to do... Bossy Girls do that around me all the time too.

Of course, you might be right, but a gun in a box is hardly something that most folks would worry about.

You should have gotten very serious, looked around to make sure nobody was listening then leaned over the counter and whispered - "which side are you on?" :what:
