The recipe says:
"5 pounds Borax
3 pounds Boracic Acid
5 gallons Water
-Soak in solution for 24 hours, then hang-dry. Treated clothing must be dry-cleaned to keep fire-resistant qualities."
But I mixed just plain 20-mule-team cleaner mixed with hot water no-where near a pound/gallon, and it still over-saturated the solution. Cut two strips of fabric, a heavy thick cotton, and soaked one in a jar of tap water and the other in a jar with the solution. Next day the one in the borax is covered with crystals, and I have to rub them off. Both hang dry for a couple months while I forget about them, and then I test them the other night when I found them. Kind of windy, but I got a result still.
Next test is to try it on waxed fabric, for home-made tarp and tent material.
