Saw one of these at the store today. Had extended safety, beavertail, and aftermarket style sights. Was under 500 bucks. Never heard of them before but the guy said it was made by the same guys who make Bersa. I trust a Bersa. What do you guys think?

Just to add Im not looking to buy this. If I get an inexpensive 1911 it will be a RIA.

The Firestorms, either the Argentinian ones, or the new Phillipine made ones, have not had a great rep. I have not owned one of the Firestorm models, but have examined, shot, and not been impressed really with any of the Phillipine makes. They tend to be a little loose, grips don't interchange (most other parts do, though), and I believe the frames are cast. There are OK cast frames out there - like the investment casting Caspian does, but these aren't up to that level.

I have done the 1911 thing from a box-new Norinco up to very custom-built models. After lots of experience, my advice on an affordable 1911 to a buyer trying to fit a tight budget is this:

Buy a used, well-made gun, avoid retail. Colt Series 70, S&W, Springer, etc. Another way to go is professional gunsmith-built custom job on Caspian components. These can be had for often less than 50 cents on the dollar used. Pawn shops, gun shops, and Gunbroker are your friends. Anyway, the point is that quality counts in the long-term and you want forged steel that is tightly machined and well-assembled. You will save money in the long term buy purchasing a solid build for a $100 or $200 more than you want to pay, and not end up modifying/altering a lesser gun, or trying to get it to run properly with various ammo with throat jobs, etc.

My two cents, but maybe it will help.

I shot the Star model (i beleive it held 6 or 7 in .45 acp) and it was the most accurate gun ive ever shot..it also had the best trigger. Ive shot some higher end guns too :p I dont know what it was about the gun but id buy that same one i shot in a heart beat

Go to http://bersatalk.com Sevral of us have the new 1911 They are a great pistol Gunsnobs of course won't like them. Mine has a smoother slide than any of my Colts and is as accurate as any Colt. Has fed from first round any factory ammo I have tried. These new 1911 from Metro Arms are 1911 compatable The junk made Llama Firestorms are history . Look for the new fire storm made by MetroArms in PI
Over 5000 happy Bersa and Firestorm owners and more joining every day
