Shot my very first 1000yd match this morning. Oh man, that was so much fun.

I did like I thought I would in the first string. Not bad but not good. The second and third string went a lot better. It was awesome to actually see how my 1000yd load would work out.

String 1: 146
String 2: 170
String 3: 171
Total: 487 81.1% 8.1 point avg.

I can't wait to see if this makes things easier for me at the 600yd line. I plan to shoot in one 1000yd match and one 600yd match every month now. That way I can have a classification in mid-range and long-range F-Class. I shoot FTR so I was using my .308.

I'm definitely hooked at the reach out and touch something shooting. Lol.

Rifle used:
Stock Rem 700 SPS varmint
Weaver scope 8-32x50 extreme classic
20 MOA base
Sinclair F-Class bipod

Only things I've done to the rifle is add weight to it. It's around 16 pounds. I also lightened the stock trigger as low as it would go. I plan to buy a new stock and drop in a Timney trigger for upgrades. Other than that, it's a stock rifle off the self.

Load:
175gr SMK
Lapua case
CCI 250
2000-MR 47.5gr
OAL of 2.81 (believe or not but I have about a .1300 jump to the lands. Yep you read it right, .1300 jump.)

It's a load I came up with specifically for 1000yd match but had only tested out to 200yd. I was pretty pleased with how it worked. Most of the off shots were due to wind. The wind was pretty tough today.

I wish I had a practice range that went out to 1000. I have access to 600 but I noticed yesterday, there's a big difference between 600 and 1000. Lol. At times there was an updraft occurring at the 600 pits causing the bullet to rise. So I'd have to aim low and to the left just to get near center. It was a real learning experience for sure.

Well shooting at a 1000 yards should help your 600 yard game for sure

That's what I'm hoping on. :D

I saw this past deer season how much closer 100 and 200 yards looked after shooting 600 yards. I'm hoping that same thing will follow through shooting 1000 and going back to 600.

congrats! good to see the scores improving over the 3 matches. early match is usually my best, before the winds and mirage pick up too much

For some reason, my first is the worst one. I guess I just buckle down after that and get after it. Of course in this case, I was just trying to learn to shoot a target at 1000yd. Lol

Ahh here's the thread.

Already told you but will say it again anyway. Congrats!

June 28-29 is my first 1k match this year. Hoping to get everything worked out that weekend for Camp Perry. (Assuming I can get the time off...)

Good shooting. I load the same bullet in Lapua brass as sell. I settled on 2.9" COAL leaving me a country mile from the lands on my R700. They throat these rifles long cause their lawyers tell them to.

target rifle

I noticed JWRowland77 used a 20 MOA base for his scope. They didn't have these back in my younger days. What exactly is that?

Like Hopkins says it cants it 20moa.

Let's say you have 60moa elevation. Well, that'll be split 30 up 30 down. Adding the 20moa base, it gives you 50 up and 10 down. So you can shoot further. Of course depending on bullet and caliber and what not.

Depends totally upon the scope and base you are using.

Some do, some don't. Might be tough with a 1" tube.
