I just realized something. I joined this forum a bit ago asking advice about starting guns, then got busy with other things and didn't come around for a while. Now I've been able to get back around and I've posted on a couple movie and TV threads, but not bothered to share about the first two guns I bought when I finally got over to the local store/range here in Eugene. So here goes:

Western Field M832 .22 cal bolt-action rifle which is apparently a Mossberg 341 or 342 (if anyone here knows for sure, I'd love to know in the unlikely event that I need to replace something) as that's the company that actually made them for Wards judging from some of the searching I've done online. Found it used and the thing just felt so right in my hands and as soon as I put it to my shoulder... well the gun was just meant to be with me. Anyone here had similar experiences?

Beretta U22 Neos pistol that I quite enjoyed firing. Nice smooth feel, very little kick and seems pretty accurate. The first man-shaped paper target I used took plenty of decent shots to the center mass, one neatly placed in the shoulder on purpose and one right the center of the forehead.

After getting these and shooting, I am totally hooked. In a few months, after some practice (and if I'm patient enough to wait that long) I'm going to start moving up calibers. Only one thing remains and I think a conversation a friend and I had sums it up pretty well.

Me: "Now I just need to figure out what to name them."

My friend: "Dude, only freaks name their guns."

Me: "... Like I said, now I need to figure out what to name them"

My first two were " 'Beauty' and 'The Beast.' " (Ruger 10/22 and Mossberg 500 respectively). They were soon followed by "The Rough and Tough Stuff" (sks). After a few guns you run out of names. :)

My first two should be called "dumber and dumb" - reversed because the first one was the worst.
a Davis .380 (jammed every other shot!)
a Star .380 (only jammed every 20th or so!!)

moved on to much better pastures!!

"Peaches" (Chrome kel-tec p-3at)

Might I suggest Iain M. Banks' starships as potential name sources? ("Lapsed Pacifist" springs to mind ^_^)

I have a Westernfield chambered in .30-06. It is one of my most accurate guns and one I use a lot for deer hunting. It also has a Westernfield 3x9x32 scope on it. It has put a lot of venison on the table.
Yes mine was made by Mossberg. I have had several people want to buy it but it isn't for sale. BTW, I have two other .30-06 deer rifles but this is the one I seem to grab, most of the time, when I go hunting.
Enjoy your .22, it is probably very accurate.
