My Savage MKII can rountinely take out a golf ball at 100 yards but for the 1st three or four shots it's off by as much as eight inches :what: ... then it settles in and is amazing ... this is not after cleaning the barrel or chamber, it's just about everytime I shoot it, which is 3-4 times a week ... I hate to think this may be operator error but how would I ever hunt with this gun if I need to keep the barrel warm for it to shoot accurately ?

Is there a reason for this or does the blame lie w/ the guy pulling the trigger :uhoh:

Is this normal

That is normal though 8 inches at 100 yards is a big swing. If you have your rifle sighted in cold the POA will be different than if it were sighted in hot (heavier barrels will minimize this). Also a clean barrel will have a different POA than a dirty barrel. This is why hunters sight in rifles with a cold bore and most fire a few shots before hunting season to foul the barrel and then don't clean the barrel until after hunting season.
