I've only shot 3 rimfire silhouette matches, and today I won 1st place in optics and 2nd place in irons!

Totally new at this, but it's the most shooting fun I've ever had. (Well, except for that one time with an M2 Carbine!)

I didn't shoot very well overall considering I missed way too many pig targets, the largest ones. Go figure.

Also made some embarrassing rookie mistakes like starting a stage with an empty mag.

Very encouraging and can't wait to get back to the range and practice.

The Model 41 is a dreamboat of a shooter.

(With a little help from Kerry, the match director, who doesn't enter his scores for prizes.)

very nice. those targets look tiny! what distance? do you shoot standing or using a rest?

sorry for all the questions, ive never been to a silhouette match before.

No problem.

50 yds

5 different size, steel silhouette targets that have to be knocked over, turning them sideways doesn't count. (I hit a pig in the neck and just spun it around today: no score.)

Standing

5 shots at 5 targets within a one minute time
5 more shots at another 5 targets - one minute

Two classes of firearms (all rimfire)
1. iron sights
2. optics (red dot, scope, etc)

Three levels of shooters as seen on the board in my first post.

Your highest previous match score determines your level.

I'm a total noob at it, but I think that's generally how it works.

It's a GREAT sport and many shooters use Rugers without investing a tone of money.

Practice is very inexpensive!

Congrats on a terrific run, Doc! I've always wanted to give silhouette a try. Looks very challenging.

Love that 41, too. ;)

Obviously, I'm in the "noob ether", but I can't recommend it highly enough.

Silhouette matches at 50 yards really aren't that difficult with a decent gun like a Ruger and a brick of practice ammo.

Just do it!
