So I finally got an SKS in very good condition with matching numbers, as well as ~1200 rounds for $250. He also gave me a couple of fixed 20-round mags, but I can't seem to find a decent tutorial on installing it. I know they've got feed problems, look tacky and all that jjazz, but I'd like to see what it looks like anyway. Help?

Wow nice deal you got there. I haven't replaced the magazine on my Norinco but I did dissemble it completely using these instructions from SurplusRifle.com.

Part of it shows you how to take out the magazine and put it back in. Hope this helps!

I don't know about the detachable mags, but I can tell you that my Norinco SKS shoots suprisingly tight groups using Tiger Ammo. I bought a case of Wolf and thought my rifle was awful, but now I'm a very happy camper...

Strange...I'm using Wolf on my Norinco and it shoots like a dream every time.

Maybe thats Norinco QA\QC for you

If it's a used SKS pull the thing apart using the link above for instructions. Take the the bolt and make sure the firing pin doesn't get stuck in the forward position, just tap it on your desk or whatever and watch the pin. If it gets stuck forward or even sticks a bit forward then you are at risk for slam fires. Get that thing cleaned so that the firing pin freefloats as it is supposed to and doesn't stick.

Or if you want to drop a bit more money get Murray's firing pin replacement or just the return spring. Either will eliminate the problem completely.

I've never had a slam fire problem but I clean my SKS after every shoot.

EDIT: BTW I shoot Wolf Ammo too and never had a problem.

Hmmm I was using Wolf SP in the Black Box... definitely about a third to half less accurate than Tiger in my pretty recent Norinco.

Of course, it's all about what works in YOUR rifle...

;)

Taking an SKS apart and back together is really easy. You really dont need instructions. They help, but they're not totally necessary. Once you get it apart, its pretty easy to figure out where stuff goes.

yYou probably won't have much trouble withe the FIXED magazines...Most problems are with the detachable one. If they're the one's with a star on the side (I THINK they're chinese), they're supposed to be very reliable.

I don't have one, but I'm working out a trade that'll get me one, hopefully soon.
