I paid $250 for my 4" 28-2 in 2007. $600 sounds a bit high!

I LOVE MY 28-2...I WILL NEVER SELL IT! I have also added a 6" Model 27 to my small S&W stable. Buy the 28-2 and dont look back!

It will be used for range, HD, and camping in the high country. I don't plan on carrying unless I can get a CW permit. Not worth it here.

Nice condition M28s normally run around $400-$450. $600 is absolutely ridiculous. There is no way I would pay that much for a M28. Mine cost me under $400 a year or so ago.
Here in the PNW that price is $100 higher, I would buy two at $400.

Well, for range or HD, either would work. But for camping I would rather take the GP100 because if it gets wet, or slightly banged up it would not be as big of a loss as if a lovely blued M28 gets rained on and then has little freckles the next morning.

Thank you to everyone who responded. I thought about it, and today, when I went to pick up my 22 rifle(for repair) the same model 28 I'd been drooling over was still there, so I paid for it in full. It's incredible how comfortable it is to hold, as heavy as it is. Special thanks to Jim March, and other contributers, for the revolver checkout thread. The cylinder locked up like it was welded to the frame, and the trigger felt great. I now feel confident in my purchase. The price might have been a little steep, but I won't sell this one. Besides It's exactly what I wanted in my first revolver. All function, no frills.
I get to pick her up in ten days...can't wait.
I'll post a pic on the all time pic thread soon after
Thanks.

Good choice, good decision. Congrats! I hope you'll post some pics, if you do in the "All time Pic" thread, let us know, post a link here.

What I don't understand, why do you have to wait the 10 days. It's a consignment, right? So, it's basically a PPT, it's just been sold through the dealer. I thought those are exempt from the 10 day hold.

Congrats and enjoy. I bought a near mint 1959 M28 with the diamond target grips for $300 a few years ago. The pawn shop sold it cheap because they thought the barrel was pitted. I cleaned it good, and it ended up having a mint bore that someone probably leaded with some soft lead bullets. Mine fits my hand perfect and has the best double action pull of any of my DA's besides my Python.

It might be because it's my first handgun. I just took the test today to get certified to own a handgun. Either way I must wait. Gotta love this state.

$600 seems high but I'm not in California. I would still get the 28. It is hard to predict the future and 5 years from now you may be kicking yourself for passing up a deal like this. Just 3-4 years ago I saw a lot of nice ones around for $275-$300. Finally broke down and bought a good one a few months ago and felt I got a good price at $450.

Well, here she is.

I picked up my model 28-2 earlier today. Thanks to everyone who helped me decide. Heres a pic.
