Looks like Lipsey has some new GP100 special editions:

RU1768_357_GP100.jpg

This is a 6-shot .357 Magnum GP100 with tapered 5" barrel and walnut target grips. Also has a gold bead front sight. I REALLY love the looks of it, reminds me of an old S&W Model 28 or something, with that tapered barrel and blued steel and walnut. Maybe the classiest Ruger GP100 I have ever seen. I bet it will balance wonderfully compared to my old full-lug 6" stainless GP100, and the 5" barrel still lets the .357 achieve its full potential without being as bulky and long as my 6" gun.

I sold my 6" GP100 about a year ago for being too nose heavy, but have missed it greatly. I've shot the hell out of that gun and the action got sooo smooth and was just a wonderful revolver. I think if they had this variant back then and I'd bought it, I'd have never have sold my GP. Lipsey is also making this model in a 5-shot .44 Special and 7-shot .327 Fed Mag, but I am much more interested in the 6-shot .357 as I love the caliber, it is cheap to feed, and I already have speedloaders and cases for 6-shot .357 GP100s.

So what do you guys think? Should I snag it while it's available?

Better get it before I do. I've got the 5 inch Davidson's stainless full lug. It's 43.5 oz.vs 39 for the Lipseys half lug 5 inch. I think it would be nicer in that configuration. It's an ounce lighter than my 4 inch gp 357 at 39 oz. vs 40. Lipseys prices them at $810. Guns America has them a lot cheaper. You guys are getting me in trouble here. That gun reminds me of a 586.

IMHO, it is not only the best iteration yet of the GP but the .44Spl version is perhaps as close to perfection as we will get in a new-production double action revolver. May have to get the .327 too.

Nice look and configuration, if you want a blued gun. Right away I would bob the grip so I could conceal it. A couple swipes on my belt sander, round a few edges by hand, a quick coat of Permalyn, and we're in business. I have a Lett style, Altamont compact I could use, but I like the traditional look of all wood, distinguishing a revolver from ugly, black, semiauto pistols.

I'm still trying to decide between the .44 Special and the .327 Federal Magnum model! Now you want me to add the .357 version to the mix (actually it's the first GP100 .357 I would seriously consider getting). Too many guns to choose from, too little time and money to get all three!

But you're right; there's something about the blued steel, the walnut stocks, and the 5" barrel that just make this GP100 look mighty fine!

Oh and yes, you should snag one while they're available!

I really like the look of it, I’d be all over one if I had the funds available. Really nice and classy looking.

Mizar

The pistol looks rather nice - it has that Security Six vintage look.

That's what I was thinking too, that this new GP100 reminds me a lot of the 4" heavy barrel, blued Security Six (one of my favorites too)!

41 magnum! 41 magnum I say! Damn you Ruger!

Yeah, yeah I know. They aren't going to build one.
41 Special works okay though at its more modest pressure level. I am wearing my Clement Custom conversion GP100 3" right now, originally a 38 Special. It became a $1300 gun, so it's a shame they won't build something more economical for the reloader in what seems to be the limit for the GP100 platform in 6-shot configuration. To me it is the ultimate major caliber carry revolver.

Just found this moving picture on these new revolving pistols:

They look just "plumb neat" as it were. My LANDLORD needs to GET OFF HIS RUMP and give me my security deposit back so I can snatch one for myself!! :D

I love the stout walnuts, the slick bluing, that gold dot like a star on a Christmas tree... ohhhhh how this revolver is calling my name!!!

I wonder of holster options? I'd love one that keeps the gun up so I can drive with it.

For a good holster look at Simply Rugged pancake. I have 3 and like his service and the pricing is reasonable.

I am enjoying their move away from full lug barrels. That is a good looking gun, even with Ruger's blocky frame. I already have too many 357s, so will wait for another caliber, maybe the 327 Federal Magnum 7-shot, although I am pretty deep into those as well. One possibility for this new gun is to send it off the Clement Custom for another 41 Special conversion in a barrel length significantly longer than the 3" GP100 I have now, with one to be a carry and one a target.

The .41 Special sounds like a peach of a round. I know Starline is now making headstamped brass for it, and at least one or two companies load commercially for it.

Maybe Ruger can bring this cartridge to the mainstream? They pretty much put the .327 Fed Mag on the map with their SP101 and GP100 series guns, and continue to.

I think a market innovation like that would more likely come with a Lipsey's order as the catalyst. This gun would be a great platform for it.

Looks very nice. I have zero regrets waiting for the proper partial lug gp100 to come along. This would be on top of my list if I didn't already have a stainless 6" model.

Guys I did it! :) I bought one!!

TSS Warehouse had the best price and low shipping so I got it from there.

I plan to do a thorough review and range report for the gun once it comes in. This is just too good of an idea from Ruger to pass up. I loved my old GP100 so much but like I said the balance wasn't great with the 6" full lug barrel. This model changes that and has the styling of the old Security Six, but with an updated stronger design and of course parts and service are still obviously available from Ruger, which is not the case for the old Six series guns.

Hope I get a good one, have read some reports on some quality control bobbles from Ruger and excessive forcing cone gaps. We'll see how it is, though.

You'll be hearing more as soon as it comes in. Thanks for the input gang and Merry Christmas!! :D

I look forward to your review. It seems Ruger has dumped a lot of desirable firearms on the market lately and my bank account and my wife, can't let me keep up.

Congrats! I'm looking forward to the review. I still have a 6" GP100, but the older I get the more nose heavy it seems to become. lol. :D
