wow cajunbass, thats a very nice revolver.

i can do a trigger job. i did them on a few sigmas and a few shotguns, not new to guns, just never had a revolver. all my handguns are semi auto

I would go with a Ruger 22. They seem to be a little tougher, and the sp101 4.2" would be closer to your price range.

I'll add my vote for the K-frame Smith & Wesson. I've got four, a 17, 10, 15, and 66. All are nice shooters and give a lot of fun at the range or field.

Warning: buying a centerfire revolver usually leads to reloading, just due to ammo cost. Even .38 Special is 2x+ the cost of 9mm. If ammo cost is a factor, a .22 is unbeatable for value.

I have no problems with Rugers. I've owned and shot SP101s and still have a 6" GP100, my serious field gun. But for all around plinking joy, a K-frame is almost unbeatable.

Any Smith, Ruger or Colt DA revolver in .22LR or .38SPL or .357Mag that you can find in your price range gets my vote. You can find lots of things at GunBroker.com

After you decide on your centerfire revolver, consider getting a .22 revo that closely matches the centerfire gun. They make surrogate guns, a gun that allows you to practice inexpensively and with minimum recoil. That is nice for practicing a double action trigger stroke, and with the cost and availability of ammo these days, saving money is also good.
