First Shots is a relatively new program that gives people interested in trying shooting for the first time the opportunity to get out on the range get an introduction to our sport without having to come up with a lot of gear and money. Nice looking program. You may want to make your local range aware of it as a way to grow new shooters and add to their business.

About First Shots

When it comes to learning about handguns, shooting and firearms ownership, not knowing how or where to start can be an intimidating hurdle for newcomers. First Shots® provides opportunities to get started and the support to continue in handgun shooting.

At a First Shots seminar, you will get:

an educational introduction to the safe, recreational use of handguns
a clear understanding of the local requirements for owning and purchasing a handgun
individual and group training and shooting range access for continued participation
shooting sports opportunities for all levels of interest

I saw this on one of the shooting shows. There is a new range that was built here and one of my co workers retired and started to work there full time. I have been talking to him about free range time and myself will provide pistols and and ammo for beginers to lets say.....give it a shot, ya bad pun. hope it works out.

Twice a year , my home range will do a Single Parent firearm intro for kids/parents --- I thought that it was partly funded by a grant from the NRA. ----- we would get about 50+ kids and maybe 25-35 single parents. They would get to fire .22rf handguns and rifles , black powder firearms , shotguns { both at "Trap" and Steel knockdowns} , and centerfire handguns. Our club has a few "range .22 rifles" and us ROs would bring our own private firearms for the kids to try.Our club would buy the ammo{.22rf , .38Spl , .45acp , 12ga and .410} --- IIRC , we would go thru about 50,000 rds. of ammo in less then 8 hours !!!! EVERYONE who signed up would first have to go to a 90 minute firearm safety course BEFORE they were allowed on the range. And it was a one on one with a cert. RO standing right next to the kid/parent while they were shooting.

Some of those single Moms sure looked and shot good !!!!!

We almost always got a good write up by a news reporter in the local paper. I know we made a few Anti-Gun people into Pro-Gun people by doing this.

We had a local Boy Scout Troop come out and cook lunch { burgers/dogs etc. } --- the Troop made a few dollars profit from the food sales ---- the ROs lunch was paid for by the club.
