I'm about to get into suppressors. I think I'm going to go with a pistol suppressor then a rifle later on. I'm looking at a AAC Ti-Rant .45 to use on either a .45 or .40. The 10mm will obviously be louder than a .40 but you get more "uumph;" then there is always the 1911 .45. Which option should I go with?

10mm for the most part is supersonic. Depending on your expectations, you may not be happy with suppressed 10mm.

They say that sig is a great suppressor host. I have nothing bad to say about my Glocks as hosts for centerfire pistol hosts.

I load all my own ammo so with 200 grain bullets I can get subsonic with 10mm, though it will be close.

For suppressed use I wouldn't use either a 10mm or a .40 cal. Now I do think the Glock 20 is a really cool gun, but it just doesn't scream suppressor to me.

Sigs are supposed to be very good for suppression, with the edge going to the P226 over the rest of them (probably the extra bit of barrel, but I'm not sure).

If you want to go through all the trouble to download and trouble-shoot your own subsonic 10mm, feel free. But for a first suppressed pistol, I'd stick with something in 9mm where you can find factory loaded subsonic ammo at a pretty decent price in comparison to other 9mm ammo types.

My plan for a first suppressed pistol is going to be either a Sig 226 or 228 in 9mm (already have the 228) with a Ti-Rant or Osprey. Though I may also pick up a TM Poseidon just so I can have one of those cool little micro suppressors to play around with on occasion :D

I just finished this decision -- got an Osprey 45 to put on my FNP-45 Tactical. Then I added the 9mm piston and Lone Wolf threaded barrel for my Glock 17L.

Don't forget sights, standard sights won't generally work with a suppressor. The FNP Tactical comes standard with extra tall sights, but since its also pre-drilled for the Trijicon RMR, that is what I used. Added a Burris Fastfire-II to the 17L to solve the problem there.

I've also got the piston for my RRA 9mm AR carbine, but I haven't had time to try it there yet.

Coming up with a subsonic 10mm load is easy. Most of the 200gr starting loads are already subsonic (between 800-900fps). I don't own any 9mm's so if i were to get one I would also have to invest in new reloading gear (dies, bullets, etc.). Plus I'm a big/heavy bullet kind of guy. The reason I'm looking so hard at that is because it will only cost my $125 + suppressor to get shooting with the G20 ($200 + suppressor with the 1911).

I'd get a .22 suppressor that will stand up to full auto fire and is rated for .22WMR. Some are even rated for FN5.7

You can use it on pistols and rifles.

A .45 is ideal for suppression since it is easily subsonic, readily available, and cheaper than 10mm. I would opt for a Glock, HK, XD, or FN, or some other polymer given the ease of adaptation for suppression and the cost is just so much less than a 1911 platform.

My first silencer advice is the same as I give for first gun advice. A 22lr is a good entry level can. You can get any 22lr rifle or pistol threaded for 1/2-28 and attach the can to any of them. It is fun and lowest risk.
