First they came for the Assault Rifles
and I did not speak out
because I prefer my wood grain.
Then they came for the Handguns
and I did not speak out
because I did not have any.
Then they came for the semi-automatics
and I did not speak out
because I didn't need one to hunt.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Adapted from the poem by Pastor Martin Niemöller (First they came for the Jews)

What do you think?

An oft-cited, oft-adapted parallel.

Done it myself.

Now get it published in the New York Times.

One of the campaign plans for the Brady bunch is a ban on "military type weapons."

Machineguns and mortars? Artillery pieces? Nope. "Military weapons" would be defined as "any firearm having a type of action or firing system ever used by any army or military force." Think about that, bolt action and lever action and single shot fans. Still think "they don't mean my hunting rifle"?

So can you keep a pump gun? Nope, those would be outlawed under assault weapon bans as "rapid fire weapons."

Wouldn't that be exactly the type of firearm the second amendment is referring to?
Miller got busted in 1939 because his shotgun wasn't a military weapon, then in 1968 they pulled the "sporting purposes" nonsense out of someone's posterior. When did it change from military style to sporting purposes and who is responsible?

Don't get me wrong, it's a great parallel. You just aren't the first to realize it. :) Consider yourself among good company.

Ah, don't forget military arms use military ammunition. They can go after calibers used by armies such as 30-06, 308, 7MM, 7MM Rem Mag, 22 Long Rifle, etc.

Mauserguy;

What military force uses/used the 7mm Remington magnum? No flames intended, just curious, never heard of a military application for it.

On a slightly different tangent, I'd also suppose that the category of military ammunition would include worldwide use, not just U.S. issue, correct?
