I recently purchased a Mossberg 590 12 gauge 20" barrel. HD weapon but wanted to put some rounds through it. This is a my first shortgun, only the 2nd time I have shot a shotgun and never at skeet. My father inlaw has a skeet thrower (spring loaded) and 10 acres. Anyway, got out there, hit roughly 20% of the clays. I had a blast. My father inlaw was next to me and picking off left and right the ones I was missing. He has an Inthica 12 gauge, dont know the model. He has been doing this for a lot longer obiously.

Some of the clays were knicked and some evaporated

My friend was with me as well. He is a rifle/handgun guy, he plugged about 20% as well. I say all in all we did ok for having never doing this. And the first shell I have EVER put through this gun was at a skeet.

We will be doing this again! OH....my wife will be with me next time. :)

Good start. A couple things....

First, let me repeat myself for the zillionth time. Use light loads when starting off. While the 590 has some weight to it(Compare it to FIL's Ithaca), it can hurt with heavy loads and not good form.

Second, Skeet is a game with certain rules and a standardized course of fire. You were shooting pasture clays, just as much fun but a different game.

Clays are addicting. You can see why. Instant gratification when one does everything right.

Enjoy, and BA/UU/R....

Yahoooey!!

Skeet shooting is fun!!
Good job Ron!!! I think 20% with a short(er) barreled HD shotgun with REALLY light turkey loads is pretty darn good. Next time I think we'll use 6 or 7 and just place the clays on top of the barrel and shoot straight up!!

Jus kiddin,
That was a blast!!!

Matt
