So, yesterday was the first time I'd ever been to the famous Machine Gun Shoot at Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point, Kentucky. It was probably the most memorable day I've ever had. The sound of all the machine guns firing, the site of hundreds, maybe even more than 1000 people just that day, all there to enjoy the world of firearms. Was a great day. Can't wait till it happens when I have the whole weekend off so I can spend more time there. I think everybody needs to experience it atleast once.

Anyway, I learned quite a bit there. I had been wanting a .50BMG rifle for a while. They had a Barrett 82A1 on the line and I had the chance to hear and see it shot. The air that comes out of the muzzle brake is incredible. I had to have been atleast 50-60 yards from the guy at one point when he shot it and I could still feel it. The only thing louder was the huge black powder cannon. I could clearly tell what some of the guns were by just the sounds. The mini gun is obviously the easiest to identify. You just can't miss hearing hundreds of rounds being fired in seconds. The .50 cals were easily identified. The Barrett seemed to be louder than the big machine guns for some reason, which I haven't the slightest idea? Very distinct sound. I can't wait to go back. Look forward to seeing a night shoot and somebody playing with the flame throwers.

Definitely a lot of fun (I've been to the Creek once myself); the reason the Barrett SEEMS so much louder is that the muzzle break ends up diverting part of the propellant gas back and towards the sides when it fires, helping to reduce the recoil. It actually doesn't seem that loud when you're the one behind the trigger, but if you stand in line with the brake ports, you REALLY hear and feel it.

I was there on Friday too. It was my first time and quite an experience indeed. Everyone needs to go at least once

Every time Knob comes around, something comes up and I can't go. Hopefully next year I'll make it. I really want to shoot an M60. Did anyone have one for rent this year?

What were the gun and ammo prices like? From what I understand the vendor area is huge.

My first time on Saturday, also. Wow. :what: The minigun is my new favorite sound. The coolest targets were the propane tanks. You could feel the concussion hit your chest and then feel the heat from the blaze. The minigun at night filled with tracers - looked like a laser beam.

A friend I took described it as the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

I'd say as long as we have the folks at Knob Creek, Al Qaeda and their ilk will be very afraid.
Wish the folks would send them an invitation. I am sure they could arrange a nice welcome party for them.;)
