First Wheel Gun

You could not do better for an all rounder. Plenty of people buy something cheap, then move it on for quality. You started with quality. A smart move.

I have the same gun. You did well. Understand that, if the gun gets any disrespect because of a trigger lock, you can order a plug, and there is online instruction for removing the lock yourself. For now, put one of the keys on your key ring or in your wallet just in case of a spontaneous lock, supposedly possible but with very few incidents reported. It's just that your gun can really rock with full power ammo and could shake something loose. I think most would prefer that S&W would stop producing their guns that way, but the problem is not insurmountable, allowing the preference for a new gun.

Got to shoot it on Friday. Shot a mix of 357 and 38. Fantastic revolver. A joy in both DA and SA. SA specially. Thanks!!! Now I need another....642 is next.

The ONLY possible problem I can see is that with a S&W 686 as your first revolver, every subsequent purchase will have a tough time living up to the standard you just set. I seriously doubt this will be your only wheel gun for long.

That is the problem here as I see it also. But rest assured there are GP100s and the like, that are different but very good also, are available if you tire of your Smith (after about 30 years). You won't be totally left down. I just bought my first GP100, blued 4", today, after nothing but S&W revolvers my whole life, and it is fantastic also. Your not totally out of hope.

I have to say that you started out with one of the best. You will be very happy with it.

Just had to say----WOW !
Still kicking myself for letting my 686 go in a weak moment.
You've begun a long term love affair with wheel guns. They just look so cool.!
