fitting a 1911 thumb safety

hi y'all.
new to the forum.

It appears that I have to install a new thumb safety in my series 70 1911. For some reason, I can't find any thorough information regarding the fitting of this part. Looked in Kuhnhausen's manuals to no avail. Could really use some help/advice in fitting this part.

Assemble the gun without the grip safety and the plunger assembly. You can see how the safety lug is fitted to the sear pad, and make a close estimate of how much metal to remove. Go slow. Take about half as much as you think you need to, and you won't be too far off the mark.
