I emailed all the negative voters on this bill and got this back from Bob Allen, one of the co-sponsers who ended up voting against it.
"Thank you for contacting my office to share your concerns about House Bill 1417.
Yesterday, HB 1417 was heard in the Environment and Natural Resources Council Meeting. Although I was a cosponsor of this bill, I ultimately believed it was best to vote against this bill on principle. The original language of HB 1417 was too broad and in my judgment did not go far enough to adamantly protect and defend Second Amendment Rights.
HB 1417’s official name is Individual Personal Private Property Protection Act of 2007:
· This bill makes no mention of guns.
· This bill makes no mention of the Second Amendment.
· This bill is not a gun bill.
During the Council Meeting, I offered an amendment to provide clear and specific protections for a Citizen’s Constitutional Right to possess a firearm. I offered this bold amendment in the hopes of standing up for the Second Amendment. I continue to believe it was the right thing to do.
I was not intimidated by special interests. I made no gains by voting this way. It is time for us elected officials to honestly say what we mean and directly support what we know to be right and genuine. I wanted a bill clearly defending our right to bear arms beyond ANY doubt.
I am proud of my right to carry a firearm. I believe strongly in the Second Amendment and its importance to our God give right to life, liberty, and pursuits of happiness. HB 1417 did not go far enough to provide a courageous and wholehearted defense of not “individual personal private property,” but the RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.
I encourage you to contact your NRA, contact Marion Hammer at [email protected], ask them why they were not willing to support my Amendment, my effort to pass A REAL GUN BILL into law.
Thank you for reading and for your participation in this process. Attached is the TRUE GUN BILL I proposed. Ask Marion Hammer why she chose not to support it.
Sincerely,
Bob Allen"
