I recently got a Cimarron Frontier model P in 7.5 barrel length. I have always loved the cavalry pistol look since watching westerns as a kids. However, since I am not concerned about fast draw; I wondered if a flap holster was a good holster for this pistol? I found some that even have the U.S. on the flap. Any experiences with the flap holster in the 7.5? Also, should I get the right hand side which is most historically accurate? Or is cross draw (I am right handed) the best choice? Thanks.

Trailrider Products makes a great 1863 pattern holster that works very well and can be had in RH or RH cross draw. These are NOT 'fast drawing' holsters but they WILL keep your revolver covered and protected while doing all sorts of activity.

This is my vaquero in one: http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=187745&d=1376520038

There are a myriad of 1873 style holsters out there with the US embossing , many are made for RH cross draw, as very few of us wear a sabre anymore.

I have a flap holster with CS on it and it works just fine for my 7.5 inch Ruger old army. I think Cabelas sells them.
