I recently got a Cimarron Frontier model P in 7.5 barrel length. I have always loved the cavalry pistol look since watching westerns as a kids. However, since I am not concerned about fast draw; I wondered if a flap holster was a good holster for this pistol? I found some that even have the U.S. on the flap. Any experiences with the flap holster in the 7.5? Also, should I get the right hand side which is most historically accurate? Or is cross draw (I am right handed) the best choice? Thanks.

Sorry, this post should be in the holster thread?

My apologies, this should be in the holster thread area.

My understanding is that it should be worn on your left hip, butt forward because you will be wearing a sabre on the right side.

Exactly opposite. Saber was on left side. This is why they mounted a horse on the left side, because the saber was on the left.

Holster on the right side, butt forward. That way you can draw the saber with the right hand or the revolver by using the twist wrist "cavalry draw" with the right hand,. Then if you alread had the saber in the right hand, the revolver can be drawn with the left hand crossdraw.
