I am in need of some guidance. Whats a good flashlight, not too expensive to mount on a 12 guage? mossberg 500, i have a surefire g2 on it now, will that hold up to recoil? i always take it off when shooting cause i dont want to ruin it, but i dont want to ruin it the one time i might truly need it and be SOL... so should i upgrade? if so to what? or will this do the job?

If it's a regular Surefire G2, the filament bulb could end up getting broken due to the shotgun recoil. I would recommend upgrading to the Surefire G2 LED because the LED bulbs are basically indestructable and you also get about 10 hours of battery life instead of 2 from the standard G2.

There is another option, but it's not warrantied by SureFire if you do it. What I did was go here:

and get a no-name LED drop-in upgrade. I bought 3 of these and upgraded 2 of my regular SureFire G2s (1 for backup) and they work great and the light is really bright! I'm not sure how tough they are compared to the SureFire unit but they're a lot cheaper and so far mine have been fine.

Buying the LED module for your existing G2 will be your cheapest option.

I would also second the recommendations of sticking with LED over incadescent lamps. I work for Streamlight and we do offer a shockproof lamp for our Thunder Ranch light. Some folks have said their standard incadescent lamps have held up to 12ga recoil, but I'd still stick with LEDs.

If it was my personal weapon, I'd go with a dedicated light for my shotgun. I am using a TLR2...with the option of using a pressure pad. I find it to be more practical and you have more mounting options.
