I currently own a Nitecore D10 flashlight that is a pretty decent LED flashlight similar to this http://www.nitecore.com/goods_detail.php?id=7

I have this Mossberg 500 http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/37_336/products_id/39622

I want to mount a flashlight on my shotgun for HD. I prefer to be able to use my Nitecore because that seems like it may be the cheapest option.

Any suggestions on what I need to mount my flashlight?

Any other options mount/light options out there that won't break the bank?

Thanks.

It's an LED light and that's good, because shotgun recoil is hard on incandescent bulbs. Problem with using non-purpose built flashlights as weapon lights on shotguns is that the internals of the flashlights usually aren't built to keep the battery from battering the internals in recoil.

But most any of the barrel clamps can attach a flashlight to the shotgun pretty simply and in a variety of places. ATI makes a spacer that will help a narrower diameter light fit into a 1" clamp. I much prefer to use a detachable light on a rail mount on shotguns myself rather than a clamp that is not easily detachable. Shotguns are pretty hard even on purpose built weapon lights over time, even the famous (and expensive) SureFire fore-end line offers an accessory 'practice plug' so the owner can remove the light and batteries from the forearm for practice.

This mount might work, it replaces the cap screw that holds the barrel on - http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=22533/Product/REMINGTON-MOSSBERG-SHOTGUN-FLASHLIGHT-MOUNT . Says it's for a MiniMag light that's 18mm in diameter, yours is .04" bigger but since it's a collet mount it should give some leeway.

Give http://www.elzetta.com/zsmFAQ.htm a look too.

There's lots of options, depending on what you are willing to accept as an end result.

Mount it to the stock fore-end

To add a relatively inexpensive light to my shotgun I went the do it yourself route.

I cut a picatinny rail down to the size I needed, then mounted the rail to the stock fore-end with aluminum screws from the hardware store.

From there you can add any flashlight/mount combo you can find. I found a TLR-2 demo for just over $100.

So for about $110 I have a reliable (so far) light that can be easily removed while I'm practicing at the range.

If you try this out and mess up the for-end you can find used replacements for ~$5 online.

You have to love the lights. The bad guy knows exactly where you are.

Letting the intruder know where you are before filling him with lead sure beats the risk of shooting the wife or kids b/c they decided to get up for a sneaky lights-out midnight snack! :scrutiny:
