Even after being shot, he was able to exit his still moving cab and run quite some distance in hopes of getting help. In just 12 hours, doctors released the driver. So far, no mention of caliber.

One sort of neat part of the wounds is that he suffered 3 shots to his chest that traveled laterally through his body fat where they were stoppped. No chest organs were injured.

I'm betting by the number of bullets fired and bullet performance it was probably 9mm FMJs.

Lucky he was obese.

A 200lb man is considered obese? Man, its amazing that I can even get around under my own power. :neener:

I am really curious about what he was shot with.

I saw the guy interviewed on TV, hence looking up a link to his story to have here. The newsperson asked how he was doing and he replied "fair to midland." I have days when I get up that I am not doing quite that well, but I wasn't shot 8 times the day before either. Like many of us, the guy probably had some table muscle, but he did not appear to be obese at all.

The newsguy made some comment that this was all over $5. It was and it wasn't, of course. Once the gun came out, the issue of money was ancillary to the life and death drama that was unfolding. The cabbie noted that he knew he was about to be shot as he had seen the look before that was on the guy's face. I think he was convinced that no matter what he did, the guy would shoot him. Probably so.

The really strange part is that the guy said he really preferred getting out of the hospital and going back to what he loved than being kept at the hospital or ordered to rest at home. The guy went back to driving cabs the next day, what he loves to do. His fellow drivers treat him as something of a legend figure.

As somebody once said, when it is your time, it is your time. In this case, it was NOT his time.

Remarksble

I saw him on TV and he looked real good for somebody with twelve recent bullet holes in him.
I guess accuracy trumps hi-cap?

Not really. I'm 5'5" and 195. :D , but then I spend a lot of time in the gym also.

I'm wondering how short he was? It's kinda hard to stop a bullet with just love handle chub!:D

Hey, don't be dissin da .380! I just got one, and want to feel good about it! :D

AFA the article goes, it seems to me that it'll just be fodder for the continuation of the ban. I mean...

[sarcasm on]
...if he didn't have what was OBVIOUSLY a high capacity magazine, that poor cabbie wouldn't have been shot so many times!! COME ON PEOPLE, WE NEED TO GET THESE OFF THE STREETS...and into the hands of law abiding honest folk, like ourselves! :D
[/sarcasm off]

[logic on]
now if there were stronger laws regarding punishment for crimes where a gun was used...well, I hope it'd be a deterrant.
[/logic off]

Of course, not knowing the details, I could be way off.

"A 200lb man is considered obese?"

Well, the article didn't really call him obese or even fat. Just the bullets lodged in his fat tissue. But 200# = obese? IMO, yeah,....if he was 4' or less.:)

My guess is .22 lr.
