Florida Gun, in Miami

I go to big al's in pembrooke/hollywood.

$7 for all day come and go and they allow reloads.

Hey! What is their rifle policy? I live in Miami and have been looking for a range to take my 1911 and Saiga 5.45 to that allows me to bring my own ammo with a reasonable entry price. This seems like the place for me (only problem is that its max range is only 55 yards and that's not much of a challenge for my rifle...but I'd do it because I haven't had a chance to fire it yet). Thanks for posting!

For rifles, i'd go to Trail Glades. For pistols I go to Big Al's (Hallandale Bch Blvd) or Pembroke Range (used to be American Indoor) one exit north on I95.

I've used Hialeah range on 103rd St in years past. I haven't been there lately. I hear that the range across from the old Hialeah Speedway is good. I haven't been there in years also. I go to Big Al's and Pembroke because they're open on Sundays and that's usually when I can squeeze some time in to practice.

For rifle, Markham Park runs their place like Boot Camp on steroids. Much more productive atmosphere at Trail Glades. Both have 100 yard range.

It's 15 minutes, and you do it once at your first initial visit only.

Every range does things differently. At least with a one time briefing you know where you stand and what to expect. The alternative is a bunch of unnecessary yelling (Markham).

What are the better gun ranges to go to in South Florida?

There are two outdoor 100yd. rifle ranges:

Trailglades in Miami-Dade County & Markham in Broward County. They both regularly have a bunch of idiots drop in (think gangbanger with his girlfriends in high heels showing them how to shoot an AK standing up in a way that doesn't hurt their hairdo), so they have a lot of rules, and RO's who are on top of everything. i.e. You will get yelled at if you don't make your rifle safe before peeking in your spotting scope. If you want to sight in a 5.45 saiga you will have to go to one of these. Pick whichever is closer and bite the bullet.

The indoor ranges are generally much better.

I like Pembroke. They are pretty liberal and you can get a lane without a wait. The only problem is that you cannot shoot rifle calibers unless it is frangible.

Sebastian hit it right on with the info on Markham and Trail Glades. The class at Trail is good for 3 years. It's about 15 minutes long and they normally hold it on the hour. You might want to call before you go and verify that. Trail Glades will charge around $9-10 per shooter for the range, I can't remember the charge for the class/card. Recommend you bring the rifle in a case/pouch, if not, an RO will have to bring it up to the firing position.
At Markham, there is no class requirement. The range fees are ~$8-9 per shooter for a 4 hour period. They only allow 3 firearms per shooter at the positions IIRC.

The indoor ranges are Florida Gun Center, which you know. Great place, but no rifle calibers. They charge a flat range fee ~$10. Max range around 20-25 Yards
Ace's Indoor in Doral, they allow rifle calibers, but they are very pricey. The only allow US ammo, no steel case or core/jacket. They do charge a higher range fee if you bring your own ammo. And they charge by the hour. Different rates for pistol and rifles. Max range around 25 Yards
Big Als, as mentioned above, flat rate, but no rifle calibers. Max range around 20-25 Yards
There is Pembroke (American) as mentioned, but I've never gone.
Bass Pro in Dania has a small range, but if you think Trail and Markham are a pain, go to Bass Pro.
Further North by University and 595 is Weston Arms with a small range around 25 yards. Been there, but haven't shot yet.
Hialeah Gun Range, -- I haven't been to in years. Last time I was there, the place was falling apart, I can't imagine what it's like now.
