Any recommendations as to where or whose fluted bull barrels to try? I'm looking for one for my Ed Brown Kobra Carry (Commander Style 1911). A shop that could supply the barrel and fit the barrel to the pistol is preferred. - Dacos

Not so rhetorical question. . .

Why on Earth would you want to mess around with an Ed Brown 1911? and why would you let anyone but Ed Brown work an an Ed Brown?

From Ed Brown's wesbite...

Do you offer any type of gunsmithing work?

No, we do not. However we do offer an installation service for Ed Brown parts.

Ed Brown doesn't offer a FLUTED bull barrel part.

Who does offer a fluted bull barrel for the 1911? Ported yes -- fluted? Never heard of it. Don't see how it would work with a barrel bushing.

Yes they do exist:

Lissner used to make them and I'm wondering if there's a counterpart here in the U.S. which goes towards my original question.

Why on earth would one want a fluted barrel for a .45 ACP handgun??? What possible purpose could it serve that wouldn't be better served by a regular heavy barrel? Heat is not much of an issue with handguns, and fluting has never proven to help until the barrel is too hot anyway.

Good Lord, ease up guys... :)

He wants a fluted bull barrel.
For his Ed Brown.

A fluted, bushingless, bull barrel mod makes very little sense to me, but ditto
a buttload of other 1911 mods and alterations that regularly find expression
and meet broad acceptance among 1911 aficionados.

Non-fluted Commander Bull Barrel

Ok, so where can I find a non-fluted Bull Barrel for a Commander size 1911? Ed Brown no longer carries a bull barrel in 4.25" length.

Two places to call
George Smith at EGW and Bob Hostetter at Barsto..both gentleman would easily be able to take care of fitting and fluting a bull barrel for your gun..

Lots of barrel choices too..

EGW, BarSto, Schuemann, Nowlin, etc..
