Although I know about the rules and regs of flying with my pistols, I havent had to transport my range bag and all the stuff I may need to compete.
So my question is this - how do I get it all there?

Put TSA locks on my range bag and check it in? Drop it in a Pelican, or put it all in my rolling duffel?

Any advice and ideas would be great...............

It's my understanding they won't allow ammo. You'll need to ship that to someone there who can receipt for it. It can go through FedEx or UPS; just mark the box ORM-D. There is no hazmat fee on ammo.

The other stuff in your range bag; earmuffs, etc. should be okay to take on the plane with your checked luggage. Any cleaning gear like Hoppe's should probably ship with the ammo.

Nope.

Note that most airlines impose an 11-pound limit on ammunition in your checked baggage - this adds up to about 325 rounds of 180-grain .40 JHP, or about 200 rounds of 9mm 124-grain JHP plus about 200 rounds of .223 55-grain FMJ. I've never actually had a ticket agent or security type weigh my ammo, but I suppose it could happen.

I fly to IPSC or multigun competitions 3-4 times per year. The way I go, I put my firearms, optics, and electronics (LRF, shot timer, etc.) in soft cases, then inside a hard-sided rolling Pelican case. The soft cases are for carrying the guns around at the match. My shooting bag (Eberlestock Phantom) holds all my ammo and additional gear, it gets checked as well. My clothes and Dop Kit go into my carry-on.
