I bought an Egyptian 8mm FN-49 a couple of months ago here at my TDY station in Yakima, and soon thereafter shipped it home. Got a chance to go home this weekend for a couple days, and gave the rifle a quick once over looking for the importer's mark, and couldn't find one.

Does anyone know where to look for the mark? And do I have to pull the rifle apart to find it?

Those terrible, value detracting, importer marks!
Most of the recent importers are smart enough to use very tiny marks, usually in criptic code, to identify themselves and their products.
1/32" letters are not uncommon so use a strong glass if you need to.

Try looking on the bottom of the barrel, up by the muzzle.
Another favored location is the left rear side of the receiver. HTH

Checked both spots, even did a feel test on the barrel. Nada. Hell, even FN's own marks are tiny on this thing. Right side of the receiver, just under the loading/ejection port, probably 1/16". There's Egyptian markings on the left side of the receiver cover. Can't find any other markings. That's why I'm wondering if the importer put the marks somewhere that they're hidden by the wood.
