I was looking at a FN FAL today a Enterprise arms one, I know some are good and some you should stay away from, DSA being the best and to stay away from Century and Hess but what about the others and how would you rate them as good to bad. One other question how do you tell a metric from an inch one.

I have a Century L1A1 - and that is inch. Some work did make it into an adequate shooter!

My Fal is metric - true FAL's are metric - and built on an Imbel receiver - I do not know it's initial origins as I bought it from another member here way back.

I cannot suggest the top options but generally it seems an Imbel build up will be superior to many.

Imbels are good, forged receivers. The rest of the gun might be spottily built, but the Imbel is a solid start. The Century guns can usually be made into fine shooters, though.

If you're on a budget, there are other FALs to consider.

-Ohio Rapid Fire
-DSA STG-58 "Austrian FAL"

There are various other small builders out there with good reputations, and the FAL Files is a good place to begin looking.

As for Entreprise, they've been hit or miss. But unless there's something obviously wrong with it upon initial examination, I'd be tempted.

If at all possible, take the weapon to a firing range and run several hundred rounds thru it before making a commitment to buy. I found that some FALs, when assembled as semi autos had out of spec parts installed which caused malfunctions.

Entreprise(yes, it is spelled with the r before the e) has had spotty QC on their receivers. Some are great, others not. No easy way for a newbie to know without banging out some rounds.

Does anyone know if the price on DSA web sight is dealer price or what they recomend dealers charge for a DSA STG-58.
