Are there any FN Five-Seven (5.7x28mm) owners out there ?

Any Pro/Con on it ? Are you happy with it ? I have'nt had a chance to take it to the range. Since I have a couple of buddies that have one and they are satisfied, how about you.

I have the original Tactical model, you know, rounded triggerguard and is SA with safety. I'm happy with it, it's light, handy, reliable, accurate&fast to shoot, besides since I have the pleasure of having the SS190 ammo (for which the gun was designed) it is deadly enough.

Cons? Looks like a waterpistol (and has been thought as one by some people  ), ammo is expensive and hard to come by. Fiocchi is supposed to start making the ammo, at least FN made a deal with them, so this should relieve the problem a bit. For me the gun is in home-defence duty due the small amount of ammo at hand.

My local gun dealer has at least 3 holsters made for the 5-7, not sure the brand but could find out. Ammo here is plentiful and on line Cabella has it for $19.95.

What makes the SS190 superb ?

unless you're shooting people in armor, the ss190 doesn't have much advantage over ss192 or ss195.

i had an IOM model and traded it for a USG. the USG is nice (so was the IOM). very fun to shoot. it's great having a 30 rnd mag that barely sticks out of the grip (unlike a glock hi-cap)

read www.fivesevenforum.com if you haven't already.

Taliv, since the gun was designed to handle SS190 I would like to think it performs the best, since it's not some downgraded ammo, neutered to civilian use. But this might be my disillusion only. Also, since I'm in the military the armor penetration ability could be useful after all.

There is a web site that has SS197 for $17.00 box 50, I forget the web address, but the ph.# is 1.888.900.4868

I just got six boxes @ $22.50 per box from my local dealer, still not a bad price.

Still not sure what the SS190 does so it looks like the SS197 is it for now.

Unless you can get your hands on ss190 ammo, the 5.7x28 has a hairsbreadth advantage over the .22 WMR and costs wayyyyy more. I had every intention of getting one when they first came out, but between the expensive neutered ammo and the $900+ for the pistol, I opted to spend that tax refund on an AR-10 carbine. If you like it, get it. But without the AP ammo for which it was designed, you end up with a short range varmint pistol (I sure wouldn't trust a 40 gr. .22 caliber bullet at 1,700 FPS to save my a$$). I personally feel $900 is a lot to spend on a plinker.

If you want a pistol that is effective in penetrating barriers, get a CZ-52. The $150 price tag will leave you enough money to buy a reloading set and a couple thousand rounds worth of components. You just won't have a 20 round mag.;)

MachIV, it is sadly true that the FiveseveN is effective and justifies it's raison d'être only with the original ammo it was designed for, just as P90. It isn't "good enough" stopper with civilian ammo, IMHO. If I ever justify the FiveseveN and praise it to the heaven, it is due the fact that I have the real ammo for it, SS190 and SS192, this ammo&gun combination is deadly effective and very serious weapon.

If you want the good SD/plinker pistol, Moph, for this money you could get a Walther P99 AS and silencer kit. At least I would. But of course, I have the can for 57 too, so I wouldn't wake my neighbours and my kid up, whenever I'd ever have to use it in home defence :neener:

Not here to sell anyone on any type of firearm, just wanted to know who had one and how they liked it.

If my Five-Seven performs half as well as some experts say I'll be more than happy. If I ever have to shoot BG, it will be most likely no more than 12-15', I'll bet I'll get his attention with up to half of that 20 round mag., in the chest area, as much as that .41 Magnum I conceal carry with 2-3 rounds in the same area.

I have the FN 5.7. $760 NIB last November.
Interesting gun and round.
Easy cheap round to reload for and there are a number of people cooking up interesting loads. When new brass is manufactured the price of ammo should fall considerably.

This turned out kind of interesting. A friend gave me a bunch of phone books, so I water soaked some and shot them.
No conclusions, just thought the results were interesting.

The 5.7 V Max bullet that penetrated almost as deeply as the SS195 hardly mushroomed at all.
The SS195 bullet turned sideways quickly and keyholed it's way through the books.
The lack of penetration of the 45ACP loads was surprising.
