FN tactical 45

That thing looks SWEET! I have the regular FN .45acp, and it is one great shooting gun. I would sure like to shoot the tactical model.

Looks, somehow, like an HK.

I'd imagine they shoot very well, and the ability to mount an optic without gunsmithing is pretty unique. While I imagine there are those who could use them professionally, it otherwise seems like a very sophisticated range toy-and there's nothing wrong with that!

My first pistol was HK 23 cal. .45. It was large, expensive and remarkably easy to shoot well with. I was lucky in that I lost no money when I sold it last year. I would not buy anything like it again.

The main issue I'd see is the safety -- its up for safe, middle for fire, and down for decock. While I like cocked and locked, and hate DA/SA, reports are there is not enough resistance between off and decock positions making it too easy to decock when going from safe to fire. Also could be an issue if you shoot 1911s with your thumb on the safety.

I'd want the chance to handle one first before spending that kind of money on a handgun with such a potentially show stopping issue for me. OTOH if DA/SA is your preference, its a non-issue.

I have an HK USP Tactical .45. It looks very similar. I like my HK. Its a very accurate and soft shooting .45, but its just a range toy.

I own one. It's a very accurate, soft-shooting pistol. The FNP-45 line in general doesn't like WWB (the overall length of WWB seems to often run too long per SAAMI standards) but mine has eaten everything else I've tried to feed it.

gearhead,

Can you confirm or deny the ease of unintentionally decocking when taking the safety off from cocked and locked?

I carry one currently and have carried one in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other places and it is amazing, we tested 1911's, Beretta's, Glocks, HKs, and others and we all settled on this one, it is extremely versatile and accurate and can be easily adjusted to specific mission requirements. And no, to answer your it is not easy to decock your your pistol when popping off the safety, can it happen, yes, is it likely, no.

I have found this to be the case too with my FNP9 USG. Upon presentation I would say I decock the weapon at least 25% of the time. As a result I would not carry the gun cocked and locked. For me it is not a carry gun so as a home defense tool it is left DA/SA so its not a big deal to me but I could see it as an issue if I bought it to carry store cocked and locked.

It can certainly happen. I find it to be more likely with the FNP-9 due to the size of the lever on the FNP-45, though. The larger lever is easier to control. I don't carry the .45 and if I did I would carry it decocked so it's not an issue for me.

I have one with the 15 round magaszines....it shot 10 rounds in all three just fine but load 15 and its jammed up tighter than a drum. The accuracy is fine and I plan on mounting an optic on it and use it for Open Class in USPSA shooting. So I took it to the shoot today and everyone was excited...and then it jammed and everyone is saying ***...?Federal 230 ball. What gives.
