Whats a good price point for an XD-9 with a 4" bbl, and/or an FN-9? These seem comparable to me, and seem to be roughly at the same price point. Any opinions on either? I am in the market for a 9, I am ruling out glocks/s&w. Glocks, well, I just have never quite liked the grip angle or the overall looks of the weapon. The S&W just not sure about the looks. Don't want a Tarus/Ruger either.... I seem to have it narrowed down to the XD or FN. Any opinons, whats a good price, are they pretty comparable? Personal opinions on reliability, accuracy? Thanks

personally there is no handgun that i love more than the xd. mine has been 100% reliable and accurate, over 17,000rds, and many high round count training courses. i couldn't be happier with it. there is no gun that i feel more confident in carrying and or using than my xd service model.
Thanks for the price check, my local wants 489 + tax. I hate to wait till the gun show and hate the guilt of not buying from him, but who wants to through away 70+$ if it can be had cheaper elsewhere? I haven't heard much about the FN pistols, but to be fair don't know that I have ever heard anything negative about the XD.

Aren't the FNs DA/SA? That would be one advantage in my mind (everyone may not agree).
I've heard some bad things about the xds, heard nothing but good about the fnp, except for the oddly large mag floor plate, I've shot neither. The FNP looks really nice though.

I just picked up a FNP-9 with night sights recently at my local shop for 450 out the door, which was a pretty good deal. I was deciding b/t the FNP-9 and a XDM 9 (which was 550, but they sell the normal xd-9 for 479), but went with FNP-9 cause I heard such great things about it and like the sa/da/hammer a little bit better than the XD's striker/dao. i also liked the way the grip of the FNP felt vs the XDM, though the XDM did feel really nice.
But honestly though, I'm probably going to pick up that XDM sooner or later. Can't go wrong with either, but couldn't pass on the FNP (they're a little hard to find these days at my local shop... they get a few every now and then but get sold real quick.)

I paid right at $475.00 for my FNP-40 (stainless slide) including tax. That was about a year and a half ago and I didn't look around much.
Between the two handguns I have nothing but good to say about both of them. I will attest to the fact that my FN has quickly become my favorite handgun and has seen a lot of range time. It is accurate, the trigger is better than average, the balance is great, and I personally prefer the traditional double action. In fact, if someone were deciding between the two, I would suggest that they go with the action they prefer. Beyond that, the guns are equals in my mind.

As an owner, I think the FNP-9 is an excellent pistol. Great trigger pull; almost like a good SIG. It's comfortable to shoot and I like a DA/SA action with a real hammer. The three-dot sights work quite well.
It comes with three magazines and is very easy to maintain. It is a polymer frame but the FN system is said to be superior to most competing arrangements. A bonus is the interchangeable backstrap to accommodate different hand sizes.
Speaking of magazines, the FNP-9 will fire without one. That's a big plus in my book.
It is very tolerant of ammo; due to last year's ammunition shortages, I was shooting what I could find and some of it wasn't exactly top drawer.
It's slightly lighter than the XD at 26.7 ounces with magazine; 33.1 ounces with 17 rounds of 147-grain hollowpoints. That's actual weight on a digital scale, the factory says 24.7 ounces empty.
The holster issues have largely been resolved and good ones are available from several sources.
Various reviews have compared the FNP favorably to a SIG Sauer pistol that costs hundreds of dollars less.

what have you heard? as an owner and shooter/ reloader of the xd line i can maybe shed some light on the issues that you have heard. the only issues that i hear about is from folks that are nay sayers. The only true issue that I have ever been aware of with the 9/.357sig/ .40 models, is back a few years ago the ported 9mm models were splting at the front of the slide at the ports this has since been fixed as far as i know and i know of no other issues.

I want to pipe in here that I own a FNP45 USG. It is an excellent pistol. Great trigger, and getting better every time I shoot it. It is very comfortable to shoot, soft feeling and it eats .45 recoil. I would assume the 9mm would feel very nice. I have the DA/SA capable with cock and locked. I love guns with hammers, it is just a reassuring sight. I use my gun strictly from DA/SA as I have no need for condtition 1 carry here in PRNJ. The sights a low profile, no snag and the three dots show up well. Plus in the FP45 15 rounds of .45 JHP is bad mojo for anything I point it at. It came with three magazines in a nice case. Mine has proven to be very accurate in my hands, the only down side is the 45 is a big gun. It is not a carry weapon but a duty weapon.
I have owner many handguns, I am a tryer.... I like to try guns and if they work for me then I keep them. If not, they get traded out. I have tried pretty much all pistols except some of the newer polymer hotshots like PX4 and the new H&Ks. I own a couple Glocks, a SIG, some revolvers, no specific breed. I can honestly say this gun is the highest quality, best designed, functional, ergonomic, and company backed gun I have ever purchased for under $1K. It is a phenominal deal.... get one you will not regret it.
