FNP-45 Duty Holster!!! Finally found one that is decent.

Greetings all.

This is for the owners of the FNP-45. After searching for about a year I was finally able to find a great duty holster for my FNP-45. As I'm sure most of us FNP-45 owners know, if you Google it, you get results for the Fobus paddle holster. As near as I can tell, they stopped making it, and IMO the Bladetech holster that you get in the shooters pack should be melted down and made into base pads for magazines . My gun doesn't draw naturally from that holster, and it left black marks on the slide when ever I used it. They wipe off easy enough, but that's still really annoying :banghead:, so I've been searching.

I finally came to Safariland model 6285, low ride variant, and ordered it from Opticsplanet.com. It showed up yesterday. The gun fits perfectly, the retention system seems rock solid, and it is comfortable to wear with a full magazine in the gun. There is no hip grinding, and it is lined with leather.

If you are looking for a kydex duty holster for your FNP-45, google this one up. Note: I believe the tactical model may fit, but the threaded bbl may snag on the end, so I wouldn't recomend it for that model 45. Also, any attached red dot sight won't work either. Finally, a FNP-45 with a light or laser will not fit either. The retention system does not allow you to carry your FNP-45 cocked and locked. It gets in the way. Hmmmm.... now if someone would design a holster that accomodated all these factors, it would be the bomb!

So more appropriately, this is the perfect duty holster if you plan to carry a stock FNP-45 with the hammer in the down position, just to be clear.

Good choice. Would have gone with the 6280 mid ride myself, but that's just a personal thing. Now, go spend the $7-$8 and get the sentry for it. The problem with the 6280-85 series of holsters is that basic retention technique can defeat the hood... not good if you are trying to keep your gun. Putting the sentry on it solves that problem.

That Safariland will last you a lifetime.

Now if I could find a good, cheap, holster for my Sig X-5 Tactical with the threaded barrel.

I'm sorry. A sentinel? What is that exactly? Is it that hood guard they have on their site?

I wanted a good duty style holster mostly for backpacking trips. I'm not a cop or anything. It just makes the most sense to me for this activity. I did look at the tactical version that straps on to your leg, but I figured it would get a bit annoying if I'm wearing loose fitting pants or shorts. It would feel restrictive. I do like a sidearm to sit low though, that's why I got the low ride version. I don't want it getting caught up in pack straps or anything. Getting in and out of a vehicle isn't really much of a concern as I will strap it on when hitting the trail head..

Yup, but it appears that you aren't using it for on duty wear, so I wouldn't worry about it. Safariland has some videos on their website if you have any troubles with fit or breaking it in.

Nope, I don't think I need the hood guard since it's just for hiking and open civilian carry in the woods.

Sorry danweasel, I don't have the FNP40. I would not buy this holster for that gun. The FNP has a 4.5" bll and holds 14 rounds of .45 acp in a standard mag, 15 in the bigger mags. That gives you an idea of the size of the FNP-45. It certainly isn't a Desert Eagle or anything that big, but there is a difference from the FNP-40.

Are you looking to open carry? If you want to conceal it, Crossbread makes an IWB for those I believe. I'd do a little more research. SAFARILAND may make one, or maybe the other one suggested above.

Safariland does made versions of the 6280/85 that fit the FNP9 and FNX40. I would give them a call to see if either will work with the FNP40.

There you go man. That aught to do ya well. I really like the quality of the holster I bought. It looks like it will last forever. I got mine for $84 too. Not too bad of a price.
