So I'm pulling the trigger this weekend on one of these two guns. Only reason I'm really buying one is to hold me over until I get my Ruger 1911. It's on order but who knows when it shows up. This gun will also be used by my wife if she ever decides to go to the range with me. Never plan to conceal and carry so just a range gun and self defense.

I can pick up either one for under $375 shipped to my door so price is not a factor

I really like the layout of the Sig but I don't like the fact that it only comes with one magazine. Magazines are fairly expesive for the gun. I like the heavy feel for it's size. The trigger seems smooth but a little heavy on the DA pull. I'm not so concerned with it but it could be a problem for my wife.

I have always liked FNH as a brand. They make excellent high end long guns. I have only handeled a FNX in their pistol line and the one thing I didn't like about the FNX was the "squared" grip. It appears the grip on the FNP is more rounded in the palm which I like. This gun comes with 3 magazines which is a plus and a huge value considering I can have the gun to my door for $360. I have no idea how the trigger is on this gun so maybe someone here can help me out with that. I have no problems buying something in this price range sight unseen as long as it has good reviews and recomendations.

Help me out here. Lets hear your thoughts.

I have an FNP-9M (the slightly more compact cousin to the FNP-9) and I had a standard FNP-9 before that. The triggers are typical for DA/SA combat handguns, Not overly heavy by DA revolver standards and decently linear in DA and light and fairly crisp in SA. Trigger reset is short enough. I guess what I'm saying is that it's about as nice as you can expect. I find it better than most hammer fired poly handguns, it's not a custom or match trigger but doesn't seem to do anything objectionable.

Looking for comparison in overall:

quality
reliability
accuracy
general shootability
trigger
recoil

Although I've looked at the SP2022, and am interested in owning one, I can't comment on it from experience beyond handling one at gun shows.

I can, however, comment on the FNP-9 through it's compact version, the P-9M as my wife owns one. Hers was lightly used when first purchase - we'd never have known from wear, though. For the first hundred or so rounds, it malfunctioned quite regularly, which is, we suspect, how it came to be sold with such a low round count. On the other hand, it has since become very reliable and at least as accurate as either of us. It's comfortable to shoot and almost always accompanies her to the range.

I'm looking at one of the X-9's since I like them a little better, but, if offered a P-9 for $375, I'd probably buy it.

I have both. I have the FNP 9 for several years and just picked up a slightly used Sig 2022 ( it had 2 mags and night sights)

I always felt the FNP was under the radar and is a excellent gun. Plus as you say it has 3 stainless mags.

It's a toss up in my opinion, they are both excellent guns for the money.

I actually think the trigger on the Sp 2022 is better than the P226 with SRT trigger. It's plastic but still a Sig. Very accurate but so is the FN.

If by chance you ever have a problem, I would rather deal with FN customer service than Sigs.;)

I think the FN is a better deal with the 3 mags.

The FNX is a whole different gun. more like a HK clone.

I can't speak with hands on experience regarding the Sig but as others have said I would bet it is a close equal with the FNP. Other than the grip on the FNX, what else didn't you like about it? Pardon me for playing Devil's advocate but you do know that the grip backstraps on the FNX are changeable right? You have a choice of four. On my FNX 40 I use the most 'rounded' backstrap as it fills my palm best. I'd personally consider the FNX line vs FNP line any day. Good luck! Your choices are great either way.

I have the sp2022 and the trigger is probably one of the best I've come across in the under $600 range. My girlfriends love to shoot it, its easy on their hands and has very slight recoil. I have put about 500 or so rounds through mine with no problems and with good accuracy. This gun is also my CCW. You can get Mec mags for $25 dollars (they make the factory mags) and fit the exact same way.

No comment on the FN though Plan to get one eventually.

Sounds good Rusty! I just won an auction on one so there is no turning back now. I know I'll be happy with it. I just got a Sig for less than Taurus money! Almost Keltec money!

2 questions I have is do the mercgar mags have the piece on the end that extends the grip like the factory ones do? Also I saw one seller advertising his 2022's as "post recall" guns. Was there a recall on this model and if so what was the issue?

I had shot both and own two Sig 2022. Can't say I would choose either one of them to be better than another. I have two 2022 just because I found them in really good deal. Both of them were very reliable. I like FNP's grip better than Sig pro. Even it does felt a bit "squarish". But Sig 2022 definitely has a better (lighter and smoother) trigger.

GirlfriendS? If you're a man, and not a woman talking about her friends, you're a pimp ;)

Lol, I am indeed a man, not a pimp. I just like to enjoy the life and freedoms that are afforded to me. :) I was trying to get the point across that several girls (all of whom are tiny) have and do shoot it well, a testament to its slight recoil and manageability.

well you at least have good taste; both the pistols are "first rate" and inexpensive, but girlfriends, well, first rate but NOT inexpensive.....

The reason I chose the Sig was I just flat out liked the way the grip felt in my hand. I also really like how the decocking lever is set up. Basically the gun just felt like an extension of my hand when holding it. At the price I got mine at I can buy 1 or 2 mags and be at the same price as the FNP.

I've owned both. I sold the FN. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but I just liked the Sig better for whatever reason. Both are great guns though.
