Greetings friends and neighbors,

Say, I am in the market for a striker fired 9mm pistol and I found myself looking a bit on Friday. I of course looked at an XDm, as I like my XDs, and find the overall fit and finish to be acceptable for a polymer gun.

I've handled Walther's and S&W M&P's and don't care for either. They just don't feel good in my hand. Glocks are out for several preferance reasons, and so are Taurus for other reasons.

So, I've narrowed it down to the XDm with a 5.25" barrel, the VP9, if they come out with a long slide version, or the FNS-9 Long slide.

I'm curious about the VP9 and its trigger. I own an HK45 and the ergos are great for me, and that gun eats any ammo I feed it. But I like to sample lots of brands.

The FNS felt great in my hand and I think the trigger was better than the XDm I looked at. However, I owned an FNP45 in the past, and the thing was finiky as hell on ammo. It made me mad enough that I ditched it for the HK. I detest ammo sensitive guns, which is part of why I mostly shoot revolvers.

So for you FNS owners, are they picky on ammo? Are they reliable? Any major issues?

I've never had an issue with my FNS-40...ever. Every brand of ammo I have put through it has be shot and ejected with no problem. I only have about 500 rounds through it, but it's enough for me to consider it a reliable SD arm.

I can't see the FNS-9 being any different. Actually, if I stumble across a long slided version, I might have to snap it up. Even the .40 is fairly soft shooting out of the FNS.

FNS long-slides.....

I like the new FNS long-slides. They don't have the ambi-safety controls & are striker fired. I haven't shot any PPQs but they seem decent too.
I like the FNS design. It lends itself to ambi use. I'm left handed & like controls on both sides for carry-duty pistols.
To my knowledge the Baltimore County(MD) police force just selected the long slide FNS pistols(unknown if it's 9mm or .40S&W).

IIRC the city of Columbia, SC also adopted the FNS within the last few years. I'm sure the fact that FN-USA is based there has something to do with it, but even as a biased decision most departments aren't going to accept something substandard.

The only real knock I can see on the FNS line is the lack of accessories, and that they seem a little too quick to replace different models before seeing if they pan out.

Holsters can be a bit of an issue. Some come really close to fitting them, but they have a very exaggerated trigger guard which makes it a little tougher to find one that fits well enough. I will say that the FNS seems to be a lot easier to find holsters that work well enough than the FNX line. That gun suffers from an elongated trigger guard and extra girth due to the ambi decocker.

I believe FN products are very high quality and I would love to own one. The reason I choose a Glock 19 gen 3, was the ability to find parts and accessories very easily. I'm not a Glock fanboy either. I liked the Xd but wasn't going to pay $200 more and the M&P was out of stock at my LGS.

Very ugly gun but I like to think of her this way. She's not the prettiest girl at the dance, but she's the one you want to take home after a long night.

This would mainly be a range and HD gun, but I would want to pick up a holster for it eventually.

That trigger sure was nice.

Purchased my fns LS early this year never had one single issue with it, I thought my czp07 felt real good in my hand...the fns feels more natural in my hand than the p07. Trigger is good, but not great. And it's accurate

Glocks?....

Do the cops in Atlanta GA pack Glocks?
Lol.
FWIW; I heard the PD in Hartford CT uses M&Ps not Colt 1911a1s.
I met a few Stamford CT police officers who said they were issued M&P .40s(full size).
