I bought a 4" FNS-9 last week. It's used with no signs of wear and night sites. I was never a fan of plastic or striker fired guns (Glock being the exception) until the last couple years. At 68 and with arthritis in both hands I'm having problems with traditional DA guns and their long first shot trigger pull. Sadly I'm having to modify my carry revolvers with lighter trigger springs for the same reason. I really like this newly acquired FN, so much so much so I've got a new FNS-9 compact coming to me this week. Any positive experience with these guns amongst you all?

I really love the FNS line. I've got n FNS40 and plan on picking up a compact version some time this year since it comes with 3 mags which would bring my available mags for it to 6.

Very comfy, very accurate, very reliable. I also have an FNX-9 that is probably the most jack-of-all-trade handguns I have balancing length, weight, capacity, and manual of arms.

The FN pistols are underrated by far. I could see an FNS being submitted for the military trials. Modular, robust, comes in a couple of different flavors, and most important to the brass bean counters they aren't the highest dollar guns out there.

I picked up a FNS9 a few months ago, its the first 9mm I've owned that rivals my CZs in the accuracy department!

I looked an FNS9 over a while back and really liked it.

I'm still a Glock guy, but I could see it being my second or third choice in striker fired pistols. It seems like a very well made gun with a natural grip and nice trigger pull.

Thanks for all responses. I had an FN9 (hammer, traditional DA)a couple years ago but I'm now convinced that for me striker fired is the way to go. With luck I'll have a FNS Compact by weeks end.

I shot the FNX9 when a friend was considering buying it.

The grips were super aggressive but even a light pair of gloves solved that. Didn't really enjoy shooting it.

The FNS9 compact has caught my eye though and its on my list of guns to try out. So let us know what you think about that one. I think I'd like the striker fired FNS9 more than the DA/SA FNX9 considering how much i enjoy my other striker fired pistols.

I tried talking my friend into the FNS9 but he's going with the Walther PPQ so if you have a positive review of it, ill be looking out for one at a good price.

The FNS-9 is another one of those that I kinda wish they would come out with a thin single stack option because I DO like the trigger on the FNS-9 better than many of the other striker fired guns. I doubt this will happen though.

Glock will soon release a single stack 9mm Mod 43. Since Glock seems to be the "gold standard" on striker fired pistols we'll see if mfgs. like FN feel there's room for another of this type. I've settled on the S&W Shield for now. I like back pocket carry which pretty much demands a thumb safety.

I will be ordering a Glock 43, . . . . but if FNS made a thin FNS-9, I'd be selling the Glock for it. ;)

The FNS9 definitely fits better then any Glock. A Gen 4 is close, but still a farther reach then the FNS. The trigger is also better on the FNS, as is the price!:D

So I picked up my FNS9 C yesterday. I wanted a gun with a safety and nite sights and got it. It will be a while before I can fire it. Fit and finish are excellent. Comes with 2-12 and 1 17 rd magazines. I'd say trigger breaks at at least 6 lbs..The 12 rd mg. packed in the gun has a "pinky" extension. The second 12 rd and the 17 rd have flat base plates. All controls are ambi. The safety is perfect for me. It's rather diminutive, can only be applied when gun is cocked, and is harder to apply than wipe off. I can't see accidental application happening.
Now the bad stuff. The mag release is similar in appearance to the full size gun's, but has been milled or flattened to prevent accidental magazine ejection. The spring tension on the mag release appears stronger so the result is magazine ejection is rather difficult. (I also read of this complaint on the FN Forum so it's not just me) The magazine shipped in the gun was hanging up and required a good deal of pulling while ejecting it. It was also not locking the slide back intermittently when retracting the slide. I swapped base plates on the 12 rounders and the second mag now has the extended plate and functions correctly, doesn't hang, but is no easier to release pressing the button. I called FN Service and they were zero help. They admitted of hearing of mag release problems but offered no solutions. I asked if the full size FNS mag release would fit, and the rep said he didn't know. I may disassemble both my full size and compact guns and try to swap mag rel buttons.
