Foam bore cleaners?

foam bore cleaners seem like a great idea, just spray down bore let sit, and then run a patch thru to clean. but are they really any good?

would you use them on all guns? precision rifles? ARs? pistols? shotguns?

there are so many kinds - breakfree, wipe out, gun slick. which one to use? are there any differences?

I tried Gunslick brand this year. It worked verry well on my deer rifle and a verry dirty .22 pistol.

I liked Rem. bore cleaner for shotguns.

I found you have to let it in the bore for 1/2 hour or longer for good results.

Do you have to be careful not to get it on wood, rubber, plastic, etc.????

I only used it in the bores and did not get any on the wood. It took the wax off my table top when it came out the muzzle. Now I use more news paper!

I have wanted to try it. All I know is that every time it hits the shelf at the sportsman's warehouse in Idaho Falls, all brands sell out within 24 hours. I'd like to tryit on a crusty old mauser to starters.

I've been using the foam cleaner for a few months now. It seems to work well. I usually leave it sit overnight and then run a patch down the barrel the next morning. The patch turns a very dark denim blue, so I believe it's taking out a fair amount of copper.

I endeavor to keep it off of the stock. So far, no damage to the finish on any firearm but I am careful to wipe it off immediately.

I think the stuff works OK.

Got a can from Wally World. Usually put my rifle in the trunk after i'm done shooting, applying it to the bore and start driving home. a good 1/2 hour drive home. I take it out, bring it inside, strip the bolt and run a patch down the bore. Then I use some hoppes #9 and my trusty gun oil to finish it out. I know it may seem a bit overkill but I enjoy cleaning the thing alsmot as much as firing it

I use the foam cleaners all the time. I have to. I have been known to take 6+ guns at a time to the gravel pits to shoot. The foam cleaners are a lifesaver. I have gotten a bit of foam on shellac, and tung oil finishes by accident. Didn't seem to do any harm. Foam didn't touch the tupperware stock on my 270. But I wipe it up right away.
