Today I received a Fobus holster which I ordered for a 4 inch K-Frame S&W. It sucks. What kind of a holster maker makes a holster that relies on friction to retain it, to supposedly fit both a K and L-Frame S&W?! The same holster is supposed to work for both! Insane.

My 4 inch Model-19 fits okay, except that it rattles. Forget about my 1960s Model-10 with the slim, tapered barrel. I'd be better off sticking it in my back pocket.

I plan to send it back to them tomorrow!
:cuss:

Fobus works well for Glocks and a few other semi-autos but it is bad news for revolvers. If you have a nice blued revolver and keep it in a Fobus, it will wear the finish off in no time. They tend to grab revolvers sometimes and not let them loose, I would never use a Fobus for a self defense handgun because of the way it can bind up if not pulled from a certain angle. What if you are fighting with someone and have to yank your gun but you can't do it textbook Fobus style?

Bought a Fobus one time---took it back the next day and got my money back-----what a piece of crap.

So my only experience with them---and won't be buying any more of them.

I did get a Kydex for N frames but .. not over impressed tho - will keep it (in the box with all other less used rigs!). So plastic for revo's ?? No - not for me really.

I will say tho .... for auto's they are IMO more than useful. My fave (paddle) is one that takes my P95 and P97 ... retension is on trigger guard .. it is good .... and the draw is easy if in line with rig and brisk. NO problem for me as the user .. crisp and fast draw ..... but hell for a third party to get at - cos it won't come out at their angle. I like that!

I also have one for Browning .. and that suits my FEG . the BHP proper I would not want to marr thru useage in plastic.

Bottom line? ........ IMO they have their place ... love em - hate em ..... they are good for some people and I am one!

I had a Fobus that worked really well for a Beretta 92FS that I recently sold. Good retention but no problem drawing quickly. I tried one for my 1911 and didn't like it at all -- gave me trouble with drawing and caused a couple of minor scratches in the finish. I guess they're a mixed bag. Overall, I prefer leather.

hankreardon2000 - i hate to tell you this , but all good holster makers design holsters that retain the pistol through friction/fit. the safety strap/loop was added later for holsters that couldn't maintain that fit....poor fit/workmanship/leather. all ploymer holsters retain through friction.

my best holsters are also leather, but i have often the fobus as a better option for theose who would have bought cheap nylon/universal fit holsters.

BTW...my fobus paddle for the K/L frame works rather well with my smith m-696. i haven't tried it with a K-frame yet as all of mine wear 6" barrels

I have a Fobus Paddle for my Glock 27. It fits perfectly and I can't shake it out. I've never tried one with a revolver. I can see where it would be hard on a blue finish.
