I was shooting a .22 pistol today, and after the second magazine, I realized I was focusing on the target, not the front sight. I started focusing on the front sight. The next two magazines opened up considerably.

Now I'm wondering...is focusing on the front sight just for speed? I was shooting a black bullseye with bright yellow lines on it, and focusing on the lines helped me line up the front sight.

Nope, it is actually more important when shooting for precision.

If your groups are opening up when you are looking at the front sight, it is because you are anticipating when the front sight was perfect and snatching at the trigger wanting to make the shot go off "Now" (when you thought it was centered)

What he said. Exactly. Except that he should have used "focusing" rather than "looking".
