Follow your own advice?

I'm just back from the store, where I helped a man select a S&W 642 and two Uncle Mike's holsters (in the pants, inside the waistband). I talked up the simplicity and reliabilty of the 642, the need to practice, etc. etc.

So.. why was I looking so lustily at a used G17 3rd gen. with two factory hi-caps for $539? And a Wilson Classic stainless for $1,800?

Of course at the time I had a S&W Model 19 snubnose in my pocket. But, does anyone else here always follow their own advice to others? Like that practice thing... uh, it's been a while

No.

Because I may be giving that advice to someone who is much less knowledgable/advanced than I am.

The advice I give to a newbie is based on my knowledge and my own experience coming up through the food chain.

I may have advanced beyond advice meant to educate/encourage a beginner.

That certainly doesn't mean I'm being hypocritical. It means that I'm in a different place.

Mike is correct most people who have anything worth while to say to someone new are far beyond that level. Acctually any advice worth listning is probably not followed anymore by the person giving it. They have advanced above that advice.
