I tried out an older Bausch and Lomb scope about two weeks ago- it was an Japanese-made B&L Elite 4000. I've also tried Bushnell Elite's and their optics don't seem to be as good, despite being far newer.

I'm not really up on scopes, so I'm wondering if what I experienced is normal or just imagination.

I know that B&L dropped their B&L scope line and it became the Bushnell Elite line.

Can anyone say if there is any quality difference ?

Thanks !

Most of the Bausch & Lomb Elites' did NOT have the Rainguard coating. And the coating is no joke if you have not experienced it. It actually has been proven to enhance optical clarity and you will never have fog on the lens. It's good. I believe some of the later production B & L's had Rainguard but I'm not positive on that. The guys the shoot Rimfire Benchrest trade around and buy/sell those Bausch & Lomb Elites like they're crack. Great scopes, but I think the Bushnell's would be a little better optically because of the Rainguard.

As far as I can tell, the ones I own all seem to be about the same, price wise I'd look for a used B&L.
